It wasn\u2019t supposed<\/em> to be an obstacle course, but sometimes you just have to play the hand you\u2019re given.<\/p>\n

During the Tour Down Under bike race in Australia on Sunday, January 25, biker Jay Vine<\/strong> was knocked down by two kangaroos along the course, but recovered and eventually won the race.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone asks me what\u2019s the most dangerous thing in Australia, and I always tell them it\u2019s kangaroos,\u201d Vine said after the race. \u201cThey wait and they hide in the bushes until you can\u2019t stop and they jump out in front of you. Point proven today.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cTwo of them blasted through the peloton when we were doing probably 50 kph (30 mph), and one of them stopped and went left, right, left, right, left, right, and I ended up hitting its backside.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe UFC canceled a bout from the UFC 324 card on Saturday, January 24, in Las Vegas after one of the matchups was flagged for suspicious betting activity. \u201cIt happened again,\u201d said UFC CEO Dana White in the post-match press conference. \u201cWe got called from the gaming integrity service, and I said, \u2018I\u2019m not doing [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Not only did Vine end up recovering and winning the race, he finished one minute and three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Mauro Schmid<\/strong> of Switzerland.<\/p>\n

The crash came with just 57 miles to go in the 105-mile race. Vine \u2014 from Australia himself \u2014 had to change bikes twice after the accident, then rejoined the race.<\/p>\n

Three riders \u2014 Menno Huising, Lucas Stevenson <\/strong>and Alberto Dainese<\/strong> \u2014 were forced to quit the race, and a kangaroo was injured in the crash.<\/p>\n

Vine\u2019s teammate, Mikkel Bjerg<\/strong>, was also involved with the crash and retired after the accident.<\/p>\n

The TV broadcast of the race captured the moment, which was then posted to social media by Australian news outlet 7NEWS Adelaide<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been a crash in the peloton,\u201d said one broadcaster.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, a kangaroo has jumped into the peloton!\u201d said the second announcer. \u201cNever seen that before.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately one of the hazards of racing in Australia in these regions,\u201d responded the first broadcaster. \u201cSome of the wildlife, you can\u2019t tell them, \u2018Don\u2019t go about your day, there\u2019s a bike race on.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

In the video, Vine can be seen getting up quickly and continuing his race, while one of the kangaroos struggled to get off the course as other bikers had to slow down and stop to let the animal get to the side of the road.<\/p>\n

The Tour Down Under marked the first event of the 2026 World Tour. Sunday marked the second time Vine has won the race in the last three years.<\/p>\n

Vine had to overcome more adversity throughout the race, including many of his teammates dropping out before the finish. Two of his seven teammates (including the defending champion Jhonatan Narvaez<\/strong>) crashed out in the fourth stage of the race on Saturday, January 24, then Juan Sebastian Molano<\/strong> dropped out because of fatigue on Sunday.<\/p>\n
