Two weeks after influencer Sara Bennett<\/strong>\u2019s death following a battle with ALS, her husband, Rusty Bennett<\/strong>, is looking back at her first signs of illness.<\/p>\n

Rusty, 43, revealed that Sara, a teacher before her 2023 retirement, first noticed something was off when her right hand wouldn\u2019t function properly when she tried to clip some of her students\u2019 papers together.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018Here,\u2019 and I clipped it together for her, and that was it. She just went about her day, grading some things,\u201d Rusty recalled in an interview with People<\/em> published on Monday, January 26, adding that Sara decided to visit her doctor after the \u201cweird numbness\u201d in her hand continued for a week.<\/p>\n

Sara and Rusty, who shared sons Lincoln, 9, and William, 7, initially believed that she had a pinched nerve. However, a doctor informed them that the issue may have been rooted in her spine or brain.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tEric Dane shared an emotional update on his recent ALS diagnosis while appearing on Good Morning America. Dane, 52, sat down with Diane Sawyer for an interview that aired on Monday, June 16, sharing insight into how he first noticed things seemed off. \u201cI started experiencing some weakness in my right hand. And I didn\u2019t [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s when the \u2014 pardon my French \u2014 \u2018Oh, s***\u2019 started,\u201d Rusty continued, recalling that Sara endured tests and procedures over the following year. \u201cIt\u2019s a miserable journey. There\u2019s just no way. ALS is disqualifying 1,000 things.\u201d<\/p>\n

After ruling out multiple sclerosis and cancer, Sara\u2019s doctors diagnosed her with ALS and gave her a life expectancy of two to five years.<\/p>\n

In the spring of 2025, Rusty and Sara sat their sons down to prepare them for their mother\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was [the] worst conversation I\u2019ve had to have my entire life,\u201d Rusty told the outlet. \u201cAnd they handled it way better than us.\u201d<\/p>\n

To her family\u2019s surprise, Sara made it through the holiday season last year and was able to celebrate Rusty\u2019s birthday on New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was awesome. We got to watch the ball drop,\u201d he recalled. \u201c[Sara] was in our primary bedroom; she wasn\u2019t really able to go anywhere for the last couple months, but we just partied right there in the bedroom.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sara posthumously announced her own death at age 39 via a pre-written message on January 13.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not in pain, or tired. I can laugh, talk, and I can move,\u201d she wrote via Instagram, where she amassed more than 114,000 followers. \u201cReflecting in my last few months of my life, I am glad I didn\u2019t go suddenly even WITH the suffering. I finished my list. Even if you don\u2019t believe in anything, I am feeding the earth, and my tree. I loved this life, and am grateful for the time.\u201d<\/p>\n
