\n\tAs has become tradition for Jon Stewart\u2018s Monday evening hosting stints for The Daily Show<\/em>, the political comic had to work hard to detangle all the webs of hypocrisy exemplified by the right wing \u2014 this time, in relation to the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti at the hands of federal agents.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIran right now \u2014 an authoritarian state currently being rocked by protests that threaten to tear the whole nation apart,\u201d he began the segment as he previewed his guest of the night, former Tehran bureau chief for The Washington Post <\/em>Jason Rezaian. \u201cI mean, can you imagine?\u201d he said sarcastically before his countenance took on a graver aspect. <\/p>\n \n\tStewart slammed narratives from the likes of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem that Pretti, an ICU nurse, was conspiring to harm ICE agents. \u201cI\u2019m hearing there may be some grainy Zapruderlike footage from \u2014 I don\u2019t know \u2014 every angle imaginable that contradicts the government\u2019s version of events,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n \n\tIn a somewhat baffling aside that failed to meet the moment, Jordan Klepper popped in, supposedly live from Minneapolis, to satirize the ever-shifting goalposts of the administration\u2019s justifications for Pretti\u2019s death. In a graphic, ICE agents were depicted as adorable cats and Pretti was shown armed as Spider-Man supervillain Doc Ock. \u201cDHS is not married to this version. Here\u2019s another one they\u2019re pitching: What if I told you the ICE agents just do this on the side, and they\u2019re actually all K-pop stars,\u201d Klepper said, referencing Netflix\u2019s two-time Oscar-nominated KPop Demon Hunters<\/em>. \u201cYou didn\u2019t let me finish: And they\u2019re all gay hockey players,\u201d he added, referring to Crave Canada\u2019s runaway hit Heated Rivalry<\/em>.<\/p>\n \n\tGiven that The Daily Show<\/em> tapes in the afternoon Eastern Time, they just missed the news of Border Patrol \u201ccommander at large\u201d Greg Bovino\u2019s axing, though Stewart got in a zinger about the \u201ccommander in short \u2026 who, by the way, appears to be just a new character the Trump cinematic universe has introduced. Where the fuck did this guy even come from? It\u2019s his first season on the show.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tDeriding reports that ICE agents are feeling demoralized by public disapproval, Stewart said, \u201cPeople screaming \u2018Fuck you\u2019 eight hours a day is basically every customer service job in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tWhen calling out further inconsistencies between admin narratives \u2014 which shifted from calling Pretti a domestic terrorist to finding fault with his legally owned weapon (that video evidence proved he did not attempt to use) \u2014 Stewart asked with trepidation, \u201cAre you saying \u2026 that the guns are the problem?\u201d Bowing his head in frustration, a flying pig floated across the screen to illustrate Stewart\u2019s point.<\/p>\n \n\tFurther airing out the hypocrisy \u2014 of how MAGA lauded the gun-toting Jan. 6 armed insurrectionists and Kyle Rittenhouse \u2014 Stewart stated (links as they flashed in The Daily Show<\/em>): \u201cI wasn\u2019t shocked when you guys gave up the First Amendment, and I wasn\u2019t shocked when you gave up the Fourth Amendment, and the 10th Amendment, and the 14th Amendment at Trump\u2019s behest, but the Second?\u201d <\/p>\n \n\tHe continued, \u201cIsn\u2019t that kind of the load-bearing law of the \u2018Don\u2019t Tread on Me\u2019 flag? Your snake\u2019s down to a newt \u2026 C\u2019mon, guns are your whole personality.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tTaking on a more sober tone, Stewart concluded the show: \u201cTo add insult to injury is the denial of the reality that we all witnessed. They\u2019re lying. We saw it. And that\u2019s how brazen they lie when they know we\u2019ve seen the truth. That\u2019s how they lie when they know we know. Imagine how they lie when there\u2019s no evidence to contradict them. And maybe, that more than anything, explains why Alex Pretti really was a threat; because he was brandishing a weapon: a handheld, aluminum 1080p 60fps weapon of mass illumination. Because there is nothing more dangerous to a regime predicated on lies than witnesses who capture the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
