Beetlejuice <\/i>director Tim Burton<\/strong> has broken his silence after actress Catherine O\u2019Hara<\/strong>\u2019s death at age 71.<\/p>\n

\u201cCatherine, I love you,\u201d Burton, 67, wrote via Instagram on Friday, January 30. \u201cThis picture shows how much light you gave to all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burton uploaded a behind-the-scenes set pic from 2024\u2019s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice<\/i>, where he posed alongside O\u2019Hara in costume next to Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder<\/strong> and Jenna Ortega<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou were a special part of my life and after life,\u201d the filmmaker concluded.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tActors from Beetlejuice and its 2024 sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, are sharing tributes to late costar Catherine O\u2019Hara after her death at 71. Us Weekly confirmed on Friday, January 30, that the Emmy winner had died. \u201cProlific multi-award-winning actress, writer and comedian Catherine O\u2019Hara died today at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness,\u201d [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Us Weekly<\/i> confirmed earlier on Friday that O\u2019Hara died after battling an undisclosed illness.<\/p>\n

\u201cProlific multi-award-winning actress, writer and comedian Catherine O\u2019Hara died today at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness,\u201d O\u2019Hara\u2019s agency, Creative Artists Agency, wrote in a statement shared with Us<\/i>. \u201cA private celebration of life will be held by the family.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Hara, also known for her roles in Home Alone, Schitt\u2019s Creek <\/i>and The Studio<\/i>, starred as Delia Deetz in 1988\u2019s Beetlejuice<\/i>. In the movie, Delia and husband Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones<\/strong>) move into a haunted house with daughter Lydia Deetz (Ryder), soon crossing paths with a troublesome spirit named Beetlejuice (Keaton).<\/p>\n

Burton directed Beetlejuice <\/i>and its sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice<\/i>, the latter which also starred Ortega, 23, and Justin Theroux. Burton and O\u2019Hara also collaborated on 1993\u2019s The Nightmare Before Christmas.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cI love working with Tim Burton,\u201d O\u2019Hara told Digital Spy in 2013, noting she \u201cwould see him once in a blue moon\u201d between their joint projects. \u201cA couple of times when Tim came to town we\u2019d have dinner and it was lovely, kind of like a relative you want to see, where you just sort of go back to what you were like when you last saw each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cYou know, he lives in England and I live [in Los Angeles], so I\u2019d rarely see him.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to O\u2019Hara, Burton even introduced her to husband Bo Welch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI met my husband on Beetlejuice<\/i>,\u201d she added at the time. \u201cHe designed the sets and he\u2019s a production designer, and Tim actually set us up to date.\u201d<\/p>\n

While speaking with Digital Spy, O\u2019Hara further hinted that she was eager to work with Burton again. She fulfilled her wish with the Beetlejuice <\/i>sequel.<\/p>\n

\u201cTim was just so excited and enthusiastic about doing it, and that was infectious,\u201d the Emmy winner told Parade <\/i>in September 2024 of reprising her role of Delia Deetz. \u201cEverybody jumped in, and we kept saying, \u2018Do you believe we\u2019re doing this?\u2019 <\/i>And to see Michael\u2019s face for the first time as Beetlejuice! Like, his character doesn\u2019t have to age because he was always dead.<\/p>\n
