People<\/a><\/em> about the notion of new takes on the prolific writer-director\u2019s works, saying she\u2019d rather see creators\u2019 modern-day interpretation of some of the themes raised in his projects.<\/p>\n\n\t\u201cWell, they can\u2019t be [remade] because they can\u2019t be made without the permission of John Hughes [who died at the age of 59 of a heart attack in 2009], and he didn\u2019t want the films to be remade,\u201d Ringwald told the outlet. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t think that they should be, really.\u201d (Presumably, Hughes\u2019 two sons, John III and James, would be in charge of such decisions.)<\/p>\n
\n\tFurthermore, the Riverdale <\/em>alumna continued, \u201cI feel like if somebody does something, I would prefer that they do something \u2026 that takes from\u00a0Breakfast Club<\/em>\u00a0and then builds on [it], and represents this generation\u2019s issues rather than to try to recreate what was of a different time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\tLast year, during a 40th anniversary reunion for the 1985 seminal film, Ringwald expressed similar sentiments regarding any potential remakes: \u201cI personally don\u2019t believe in remaking that movie. Because I think this movie is very much of its time. You know it\u2019s very white, this movie. You don\u2019t see a lot of different ethnicities; we don\u2019t talk about gender, none of that, and I feel like that really doesn\u2019t represent our world today.\u201d<\/p>\n
