ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE, Jan 31 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that \u200bhe believed the United States would “work a \u200cdeal” on Cuba.<\/p>\n
His comments came days after threatening tariffs on \u200cany country supplying Cuba with oil.<\/p>\n
Trump reiterated his call for Cuba to negotiate with the United States.<\/p>\n
“It doesn’t have to be a humanitarian crisis,” Trump \u2060told reporters aboard \u200cAir Force One en route to Florida.<\/p>\n
“I think they probably would come to \u200dus and want to make a deal … They have a situation that’s very bad for Cuba. They have no \u200bmoney. They have no oil. They lived \u200coff Venezuelan money and oil, and none of that’s coming now.”<\/p>\n
In 2025, Venezuela was Cuba’s largest oil supplier, meeting roughly one-third of the island’s daily needs. Supply from Venezuela dropped following the U.S. \u2060blockade on shipments from there, \u200beven before the capture of \u200bVenezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.<\/p>\n
Reuters exclusively reported in January that Mexico, Cuba’s top supplier after \u200dVenezuela cut \u2060off shipments in December, was reviewing whether to continue sending oil amid fears it could \u2060face retaliation from Washington.<\/p>\n
