Heated Rivalry<\/em>\u2018s Hudson Williams<\/strong> defended his dad after making some surprising revelations about how his father was \u201cvery irresponsible.\u201d<\/p>\n

During an interview with Men\u2019s Health<\/em>, which was published on Thursday, January 15, Williams, 24, recalled that his father attempted to get him into weight training at age 6.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad always kept me in the gym since I was like, 6,\u201d the actor noted. \u201cThere\u2019s, like, videos of him trying to put weights in my hand \u2014 which seems very irresponsible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams had mixed opinions on the decisions his dad made when he was growing up, adding, \u201cBut it\u2019s also the guy who left me alone with lighters and, like, plastic bottles. So it\u2019s not out of character.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tOver the years, stars including Jennette McCurdy and Macaulay Culkin have discussed hitting rock bottom with their parents. Jennette broke down the abuse she faced because of her mother, Debra McCurdy, in her memoir, I Am Glad My Mom Died. \u201cOf course, there are moments where I fantasize that my mom would\u2019ve apologized or that [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Despite the shocking admission, Williams said his dad was a \u201cgreat father\u201d to him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t mean to tarnish his character,\u201d he added. \u201cBut, yeah, I\u2019ve been in the gym for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams has offered insight into his relationship with his dad since becoming a household name following the success of his Crave series, Heated Rivalry. He opened up about relating to his character Shane \u2014 who is autistic \u2014 because of the similarities to his father.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter reading the scripts \u2014 even before the book \u2014 I immediately saw how he would operate,\u201d Williams told The Hollywood Reporter in December 2025. \u201cMy dad is on the spectrum, he knows it. He\u2019s a mechanical engineer, graduated top of his class, first in class in everything, very technical genius in a lot of ways, but sort of socially \u2026 I think he would say that he doesn\u2019t want to deal with emotions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams continued: \u201cHe has told me, I\u2019m not even paraphrasing, \u2018I relate more with Vulcan than human\u2019 referencing the Star Trek, the hyper-cerebral alien creatures. I love my dad to death, and I\u2019ve always felt very connected to him. He has a sensitivity to him that is very boyish. I think when I read the script, I took a huge page out of living my life with him. Rachel [Reid] has said [Shane] is autistic, so I think I knew how it should look. I empathized with him a lot, immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on Rachel Reid\u2019<\/strong>s Game Changers<\/em> book series, Heated Rivalry<\/em> follows rival professional hockey players Shane Hollander (Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie<\/strong>), whose animosity on the ice is just a front for a secret \u2014 and very passionate \u2014 romance.<\/p>\n

Following the season 1 finale, Heated Rivalry<\/em> became the top-rated non-animated acquired series on HBO Max since its 2020 launch. It is also among the top five of all scripted debuts on HBO Max this year. On Crave, meanwhile, it has become the most watched original show in Canada.<\/p>\n
