Hell\u2019s Kitchen <\/i>season 22 alum Leigh Orleans<\/strong> underwent emergency surgery after suffering a ruptured ectopic pregnancy.<\/p>\n

\u201cGot a little surprise emergency surgery yesterday,\u201d Orleans, 30, wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, January 27. \u201cFor the last two weeks, I had really intense bleeding and cramping. I am perpetually afraid of going to a doctor in pain and being told nothing is wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cA week ago, I finally went to a fertility specialist who told me I was likely having either a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy, and that we would continue monitoring my bloodwork. She said if I was ever in extreme pain that didn\u2019t go away, I needed to go to the [emergency room].\u201d<\/p>\n

When Orleans\u2019 pain persisted, she checked herself into a local hospital at her husband Elliot<\/strong>\u2019s insistence.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIt has been a difficult road to parenthood for many celebrity parents, including Chrissy Teigen and John Legend. After in vitro fertilization didn\u2019t work on the first try, Teigen wondered if she had done something wrong. \u201cYou just look for anything to blame, especially yourself,\u201d Teigen explained to New York Magazine\u2019s The Cut in April [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cUltrasounds showed severe internal bleeding that had filled my pelvis almost up to my liver, and my fallopian tube had ruptured from an ectopic pregnancy,\u201d she wrote in her social media upload. \u201cI am so grateful for the doctors who quickly saved my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Mayo Clinic, an ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the uterus, most usually the fallopian tube. If left untreated, the growing tissue can pose life-threatening complications, including internalized bleeding. Ectopic or \u201ctubal\u201d pregnancies can never be carried to term.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did lose a fallopian tube, but I still have one strong one left \ud83d\udcaa<\/span>,\u201d Orleans said, going on to offer advice to others who may be suffering a health or pregnancy complication. \u201cThe point is this: don\u2019t be stubborn like I was. If you have unexplained pain or unexplained bleeding, go to the emergency room. The pain may subside [at times], but you cannot feel internal bleeding. You don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on without getting help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Traveling chef Orleans, who also has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), further revealed that she had to scale back on her culinary jobs in order to recover. (PCOS is a condition where individuals have few, unusual or very long periods, according to the Mayo Clinic.)<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you to my clients who were so understanding this week as I\u2019ve had to cancel a lot of jobs,\u201d Orleans wrote in the comments section. \u201cI\u2019m sorry to my clients over the last few weeks who haven\u2019t seen the best version of me \u2014 I was in pain and denying it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Orleans also profusely thanked her husband, Elliot, for \u201crelentlessly taking care of [her] stubborn a**\u201d in her lengthy statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love you so much,\u201d she added of her spouse. \u201cSharing this story because my surgeon told Elliot I was a few sleeps away from not waking up ever again. And if he hadn\u2019t forced me to go to the ER that day, I wouldn\u2019t have gone.\u201d<\/p>\n
