PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) \u2014 If you want to take one last spin on the indoor ice rink at the Lloyd Center, you may want to get to it sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n
A new concert venue has been under construction at the site of the old Nordstrom store<\/strong> at the Lloyd Center. Now, KOIN 6 has learned that the plans to tear down the rest of that mall property are moving forward this week.<\/p>\n There were just a few people inside the Lloyd Center mall on Tuesday, as only a few stores are still open. When the mall opened in 1960, it was one of the largest in the country and was home to the first indoor mall skating rink in the U.S.<\/p>\n Residents of Portland affordable housing complex speak out after \u2018nightmare\u2019 at ICE protest <\/p>\n \u201cIt was a Portland icon. A piece of Portland history,\u201d said Kerry Tymchuk, Executive Director of the Oregon Historical Society. \u201cIt was a showplace\u2026 It was part of Portland\u2019s DNA for so many years.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite efforts to try and save the mall, current owners of the 29-acre property will present Portland\u2019s Design Review Committee with their plans to tear it all down.<\/p>\n The plan is for thousands of housing units, offices, retail, streets and park spaces.<\/p>\n Stumptown Fil reveals winter prediction for the Pacific Northwest <\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a brand new neighborhood. We have a 30-acre site here. We\u2019re envisioning new streets, new open spaces. There will be retail buildings. There will be thousands of units of new housing.
