Patrick Mahomes<\/strong> finally gave Chiefs Kingdom something to smile about after months of disappointment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mahomes, 30, spoke to the media on Thursday, January 15, when he provided an update about his recovery process after undergoing surgery last month to repair his torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and LCL (lateral collateral ligament).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRehab is going great so far,\u201d Mahomes said. \u201cI\u2019m hitting all the checkpoints that the doctor wants you to do. Getting the strength and range of mobility back. So that\u2019s been going great. Been doing all of it here in Kansas City so far.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Mahomes continued, \u201cI want to be ready for Week 1. The doctors said that I could be. I can\u2019t predict what\u2019s going to happen throughout the process, but that\u2019s my goal. I\u2019ll try to prepare myself to be ready to play in that Week 1 and have no restrictions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chiefs quarterback expressed optimism that he\u2019d be able to participate in OTAs (Organized Team Activities) and training camp in some capacity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have to take it slow, but at the same time I\u2019ll push to be out there as much as I can be,\u201d Mahomes said. \u201cWe have a great plan in place as far as where we want to get to. We have to let it all play out and take it a day at a time, which has been hard for me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Mahomes tore both his ACL and LCL during a game against the Los Angeles Chargers on December 14.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He was asked on Thursday about the \u201cbalance\u201d of wanting to be back for the start of the season, while also taking his long-term football prospects into consideration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s something that I have to think of, something the coaches and the organization all have to think of,\u201d Mahomes said. \u201cBut at the same time, that\u2019s why they give me limits to where I can push it \u2026 Knowing me, I\u2019m going to push it to that exact limit every single day. There\u2019s places you can\u2019t go yet, which I want to but I can\u2019t go yet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
