Bohm, 25, was charged with four counts each of murder and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence for his involvement in a car crash that killed Pepperdine University students Niamh Rolston, Peyton Stewart, Asha Weir and Deslyn Williams on October 17, 2023. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors say Bohm was allegedly doing over 100 mph on the Pacific Coast Highway when he lost control of his vehicle, hitting three parked cars, which then struck the four women who were walking nearby. In November 2025, Judge <strong>Thomas Rubinson<\/strong> denied a motion to dismiss the murder charges. Two months prior, the judge denied a motion to reduce Bohm\u2019s bail from $4 million to $2 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are many, many defendants sitting in the county jail right now who would love me to reduce their bail so they can hire Alan Jackson or other private counsel,\u201d Rubinson said at the time, per Pepperdine University Graphic. \u201cThat\u2019s not the way it works.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"link-related article link-related__with-thumb\">\n<figure class=\"article__figure\">\n<div style=\"padding-bottom:56.25%;\" class=\"ratio-based-placeholder\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GettyImages-2254495924-alan-jackson.jpg?crop=401px%2C0px%2C1849px%2C1043px&amp;resize=400%2C225&amp;quality=70&amp;strip=all\" srcset=\"\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 400px, (max-width: 770px) calc(100vw - 6em), 200px\" alt=\"alan jackson\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" data-fallback-img=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GettyImages-2254495924-alan-jackson.jpg?quality=86&amp;strip=all\"\/><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<div class=\"article__content\">\n<h3 class=\"article__title\">\n<p>    <span class=\"related-badge\">Related: <\/span><span class=\"related-title\">Alan Jackson Avoided Question About Legal Fees in Nick Reiner Case<\/span><br \/>\n\t\t<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\n\t\t\tNick Reiner\u2019s former lawyer, Alan Jackson, dodged questions about the murder suspect\u2019s finances while entering the courthouse for what was supposed to be his arraignment. \u201cAlan, who\u2019s paying for Nick\u2019s defense?\u201d one reporter could be heard asking Jackson as he got out of his vehicle at the Los Angeles Superior Court and walked toward the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>During Wednesday\u2019s court appearance, Jackson conversed with Bohm and at one point, patted him on the back, per <em>The New York Post<\/em>. According to the outlet, Bohm replied, \u201cYes your honor,\u201d when the judge asked if he agreed with waving his right to a speedy trial. They were 78 and 70, respectively. Police arrested Nick near the University of Southern California hours after his parents\u2019 bodies were found. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is facing the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.<\/p>\n<div id=\"news-block\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form  \">\n<div class=\"newsletter-signup__success\" aria-live=\"polite\">\n<h3>Thank You!<\/h3>\n<p>You have successfully subscribed.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Jackson briefly discussed the case and his exit on <strong>Billy Bush<\/strong>\u2018s \u201cHot Mics\u201d podcast earlier this week, hitting back at speculation that it was due to money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t say that something happened with the retainer because I\u2019ve never said that,\u201d Jackson said of rumors surrounding the retainer payment, adding, \u201cObviously, something happened with my ability and my team\u2019s ability to continue the representation, but I don\u2019t want you, your audience, [or] anybody else to start speculating as to what that might be.
