So perfect. College football has a million bowl games, and some of them have really cool names: Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, etc. But there has to be one bowl to rule them all, and what better word for it than \u201csuper\u201d?<\/p>\n<p>As the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots get ready to clash in the 60th Super Bowl on Sunday, we decided to look at that word itself. What else is \u201csuper\u201d in pop culture? And not just in general. What is literally called \u201csuper\u201d? Below are our 15 favorite movies with \u201csuper\u201d in the title.<\/p>\n<div class=\"not-prose video-container\"><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Critics Are Loving Super Pumped! | SHOWTIME\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/flbRxL4I0ZU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/div>\n<h2>15. <em>Super Pumped<\/em> (2022)<\/h2>\n<p>We\u2019re putting this at 15 only because it\u2019s not a movie. It\u2019s a TV show. But it\u2019s a really good TV show with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the founder of Uber alongside Kyle Chandler, Uma Thurman, and more, so we think it\u2019s certainly super.<\/p>\n<h2>14. <em>Super Buddies<\/em> (2013)<\/h2>\n<p>By definition, the <em>Air Bud<\/em> franchise has no basis in reality. So the fact that Bud and his buddies got to become superheroes in this sequel makes all the sense in the world.<\/p>\n<h2>13. <em>Supervixens<\/em> (1975)<\/h2>\n<p>Director Russ Meyer always knew exactly what he was doing with his movies, and one of the best examples is <em>Supervixens<\/em>, a very of-its-time exploitation film featuring all manner of buxom beautiful women with the word \u201csuper\u201d in their name. Why? More like \u201cWhy not?\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>12. <em>The Super<\/em> (1991)<\/h2>\n<p>Not all \u201csuper\u201d movies are about \u201csuper\u201d people. Case in point, 1991\u2019s <em>The Super,<\/em> which stars Joe Pesci as a landlord who is forced to live in one of his own buildings. It\u2019s pretty bad in terms of 1990s Joe Pesci movies, but it\u2019s still a 1990s Joe Pesci movie.<\/p>\n<h2>11. <em>DC League of Super Pets<\/em> (2022)<\/h2>\n<p>Clearly, there\u2019s going to be some DC representation on this list, right? But slightly lower than those other <em>Super<\/em> movies we\u2019ll get to soon is this surprisingly cute animated film.<\/p>\n<div class=\"not-prose video-container\"><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Super Mario Bros. Movie | Official Trailer\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/TnGl01FkMMo?start=2&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/div>\n<h2>10. <em>The Super Mario Bros. Movie<\/em> (2023)<\/h2>\n<p>I don\u2019t love this movie, but most people do, and I will still admit that it\u2019s pretty special to see a franchise as beloved by so many become such a big, beautiful, wildly successful movie.<\/p>\n<h2>9. <em>My Super Ex-Girlfriend<\/em> (2006)<\/h2>\n<p>Uma Thurman stars as a superhero dumped by a normal guy (Luke Wilson); she then terrorizes him for revenge. It\u2019s not great, but it was directed by the legendary Ivan Reitman, who has a lot of fun blending the superhero and romantic comedy genres.<\/p>\n<h2>8. <em>Super 8<\/em> (2011)<\/h2>\n<p>J.J. Abrams\u2019 love letter to Amblin and the films of Steven Spielberg doesn\u2019t quite live up to those standards, but, when compared to some of the other movies on this list, certainly is better than the others. Also, how can you not put <em>Super 8<\/em> at eighth?<\/p>\n<h2>7. <em>Supercop<\/em> (1992)<\/h2>\n<p>One of the earliest Jackie Chan movies to get a wide release in the U.S., <em>Supercop<\/em> (which is actually <em>Police Story 3<\/em>) is classic Jackie, with all the action, stunts, and laughs you\u2019d expect. It\u2019s not one of his best, but it\u2019s highly entertaining.<\/p>\n<h2>6. <em>Super Fly<\/em> (1972)<\/h2>\n<p>One of the marquee films of the blaxploitation genre, <em>Super Fly <\/em>is a super cool crime thriller with one of the best soundtracks of all time. A stone-cold classic.<\/p>\n<div class=\"not-prose video-container\"><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Super Size Me | Official Trailer | DocPlay\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/as2zMlxeOkw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/div>\n<h2>5.<em> Super Size Me<\/em> (2004)<\/h2>\n<p>One of the best ideas for a documentary ever, filmmaker Morgan Spurlock decided to find out what would happen if he ate McDonald\u2019s every day for a month. Spoiler alert, it\u2019s not good. For him. The movie is very good.<\/p>\n<h2>4. <em>Super<\/em> (2010)<\/h2>\n<p>Before he got his hands on that other <em>Super<\/em> character (don\u2019t worry, we\u2019re getting there), James Gunn wrote and directed this very underrated action comedy starring Rainn Wilson, Elliot Page, and many others. It\u2019s pretty messed up, but that makes it great.<\/p>\n<h2>3. <em>Super Troopers<\/em> (2001)<\/h2>\n<p>For many, this would clearly be the top choice of \u201csuper\u201d movies. And don\u2019t get us wrong, we love this hilarious police comedy made by and starring the Broken Lizard gang. It\u2019s timeless. But another super character is just a little more timeless.<\/p>\n<h2>2. <em>Superman: The Movie<\/em> (1978)<\/h2>\n<p>This list could\u2019ve easily just been <em>Superman<\/em> movies, but where\u2019s the Joe Pesci\/Air Bud\/McDonald\u2019s fun in that? Instead, we\u2019re going to choose the Richard Donner original to just cover them all. James Gunn\u2019s 2025 version, the Donner sequel, <em>Dawn of Justice,<\/em> and all of them. Consider this every <em>Superman<\/em> movie rolled up into one. Well, except for\u2026<\/p>\n<div class=\"not-prose video-container\"><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Super\/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story | Official Trailer\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/gX-B3HMlMfY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/div>\n<h2>1. <em>Super\/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story<\/em> (2024)<\/h2>\n<p>Yes, we\u2019re ending this \u201csuper\u201d list on a serious note. This documentary about the actor who portrayed Superman and the incredible yet tragic life he led is truly everything the word \u201csuper\u201d is about.
