I\u2019ve said it before, and I\u2019ll say it again: the collision of tech and porn is inevitable. Just ask the internet, or VHS tapes, or the Apple Vision Pro. If there\u2019s a will, there\u2019s a way to watch porn with it, or in the case of these soon-to-ship smart glasses, livestream\u00a0<\/em>porn\u00a0with\u00a0<\/em>it<\/em>.<\/p>\n Behold the Mentra Live Camera Glasses, a pair of smart glasses that are being marketed specifically for livestreaming. That livestreaming capability, enabled by onboard cameras, can happen in a number of places, according to Mentra. Among them are platforms like X (duh), YouTube (yawn), Twitch (double duh), and OnlyFans (wait, what?). Yes, that\u2019s right. Mentra specifically lists OnlyFans as one of the platforms you may, potentially, sometimes, want to livestream to.<\/p>\n As far as I can tell, there\u2019s no specific integration with OnlyFans or anything like that, but the smart glasses\u00a0are\u00a0<\/em>open source, which means they\u2019re inherently more permissive than other glasses in the space, like those made by Meta, which have a closed app ecosystem. The open-sourceness of it all would theoretically make them more suitable for stuff like livestreaming on OnlyFans, a platform that, as many of us know (it\u2019s okay, you can admit it), is not exactly welcome on major app stores owned by Google or Apple.<\/p>\n And before you get any ideas, the only application is for\u00a0livestreaming\u00a0<\/em>OnlyFans, not watching it. There is no display on these smart glasses, which Mentra says is intentional. Not because they\u2019re afraid of people walking around watching porn, but because the choice gives the battery longevity and makes the smart glasses last longer than competitors with bright displays to power.<\/p>\n Speaking of app stores, Mentra says its smart glasses have their own. They\u2019ll ship with access to what the company is calling the Mentra MiniApp Store, where you can download apps that let you do stuff like live translation, memory games, calendar integrations for reminders, and more. I took a quick peek at the listed apps on Mentra\u2019s store, and there\u2019s also an option to download an X app, but all the description tells us about the experience is \u201cuse X on your smart glasses.\u201d<\/p>\n Back to the porn thing, though. If you\u00a0are\u00a0<\/em>going to livestream porn with these smart glasses, you should know that the max video resolution is 1080p, and they have a 119-degree field of view. That\u2019s the same resolution as Meta\u2019s first-gen Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses but less impressive than the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 AI glasses, which can shoot video in 3K. They\u2019re also pretty light at 43g as opposed to the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 AI glasses, which weigh between 48 and 50g. Battery life is apparently 12 hours on a single charge, but that will fluctuate depending on what you\u2019re doing. Livestreaming porn, for instance, may kneecap that figure a bit. And yes, they\u2019re prescription-compatible, so you can see, uh\u2026 what you\u2019re doing when you wear them.<\/p>\n For me, easily the most interesting part of these smart glasses is that they\u2019re open source and come with an app store. I\u2019ve tried quite a few pairs in the past few months, and the biggest complaint I\u2019ve had about most of them is that the capabilities feel limited for now. Opening up the field to let people expound on capabilities themselves does make a lot of sense in theory, though we\u2019ll see if anyone actually bothers to develop apps.
