When the Flagler County Fire Rescue Unit arrived at the scene, they found the house had a horrible smell and was filled with \u201cpiles of debris, garbage,\u201d and \u201ccockroach droppings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the rescue unit made attempts to assist the elderly man, roaches reportedly \u201cemerged from the mattress and clothing worn by the elderly male,\u201d according to the police report, per <em>Law &amp; Crime<\/em>. Stacey Laura-Louise Castleman and Erik Aleister Castleman were arrested on December 27, 2025, and charged with multiple counts of abuse or neglect of a child and endangering the welfare of a [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>When Brown, 31, was asked to show officers the \u201cnecessary food items for the child,\u201d they \u201cimmediately observed mold growing throughout the fridge and on top of clearly expired food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Detectives returned to the Florida home the following day and found the home and child in similar conditions with \u201cseveral cockroaches\u201d spotted inside the Pack \u2018n Play. In an attempt to alleviate the bug issue, Brown allegedly sprayed Raid roach spray all around the house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore specifically, each night she flips [the 1-year-old\u2019s] portable enclosure upside down to shake the insects out,\u201d the report continued. \u201cThen [Brown] places [the 1-year-old] back inside and sprays a \u2018protective\u2019 tight circle of Raid Roach Spray around the immediate base of the enclosure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, during the investigation, the detectives \u201crepeatedly removed insects\u201d they saw near the child, but the bugs continued to \u201cendlessly\u201d come from the \u201cfabric of the enclosure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Raid\u2019s website, sprays should only be applied to the home when children and pets are outside or in another room. Windows should be opened to \u201cventilate the room thoroughly\u201d at that time and product labels should be read for instructions on how long the spray takes to dry so they can understand how long residents and animals need to stay away from the treated areas.<\/p>\n<p>The elderly man\u2019s bedroom was allegedly not in any better condition. According to the report, it had an \u201coverpowering stench\u201d of urine. He reportedly was alert but unable to move himself to the bathroom or even change his dirty clothing. The situation was so severe that \u201cinsects were seen emerging from his socks and scabs on his legs,\u201d according to the detectives\u2019 affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>Flagler County Sheriff <strong>Rick Staley<\/strong> released a statement confirming that the \u201cdeplorable\u201d living conditions were \u201cno place for a toddler or a senior with serious medical issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cThese two feigned ignorance over the trash, feces and insects covering the floors, walls and victims inside the home. This was not a matter of money, they did not care about the hygiene of their home, the welfare of their child, or the medical needs of their family members. They put in zero effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The couple was taken into custody on Wednesday, January 14, and both charged with one count of \u201cneglect of an elderly or disabled adult without great body harm\u201d and one count of \u201ccruelty toward a child without great bodily harm.\u201d Both are felony charges.<\/p>\n<div id=\"news-block\">\n<div class=\"newsletter-form  \">\n<div class=\"newsletter-signup__success\" aria-live=\"polite\">\n<h3>Thank You!<\/h3>\n<p>You have successfully subscribed.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Cummings, 32, and Brown were initially held on $15,000 bond at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.
