At the time, Agnel admitted the incidents occurred, but denied that any coercion took place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That year, France passed a law that defined sex with a child under the age of 15 \u2014 France&#8217;s age of consent \u2014 as rape. It is now punishable by up to 20 years in jail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In July 2024, Agnel, who retired from swimming in 2016, attended a meeting with the victim, who is now in her early 20s, that he had requested, per <em>Le Monde<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><strong>Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage?
