\n\tFran\u00e7ois Ozon\u2019s black-and-white Albert Camus adaptation\u00a0The Stranger<\/em> won Best Film at France\u2019s 31st Lumi\u00e8re Awards in Paris on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n \n\tThe film, which premiered in Venice last September, was the frontrunner in the contest at the nomination stage making it into six categories. Benjamin Voisin won Best Actor for his performance as the novel\u2019s nihilist protagonist Meursault.<\/p>\n \n\tManuel Dacosse, who was previously feted for his work on Lucile Hadzihalilovic\u2019s Evolution<\/em>, won Best Cinematography for his work on the film, which was shot in color but presented in black and white.<\/p>\n \n\tFrance\u2019s equivalent of the Golden Globes, the Lumi\u00e8res are focused on French-language cinema and are voted on by members of the international press based in France and hailing from 36 countries.<\/p>\n \n\tThe other top winner of the night was Richard Linklater who scooped Best Director for Nouvelle Vague<\/em>, while Guillaume Marbeck won Best Male Revelation for his performance as Jean-Luc Godard in the ode to the French New Wave.<\/p>\n \n\tBrazilian director Kleber Mendon\u00e7a Filho\u2019s The Secret Agent<\/em> \u2013 which is coproduced by Brazil\u2019s\u00a0CinemaSc\u00f3pio, France\u2019s\u00a0mk2 Productions, Germany\u2019s\u00a0One Two Films, and the Netherlands\u2019\u00a0Lemming Film \u2013 \u00a0won Best International Coproduction.<\/p>\n \n\tThe award continues a prize-winning streak for the Brazilian Oscar entry, which won Best Non-English Language Film and Best Actor for Wagner Moura at the Golden Globes last week.<\/p>\n \n\tUgo Bienvenu\u2019s\u00a0Arco<\/em>, another hot awards season title, scooped Best Animated Feature.
