March 6 (Reuters) – Former United States trade representative Robert Lighthizer resigned from Trump Media & \u200cTechnology Group (DJT)’s board of directors, effective Friday, \u200can SEC filing showed.<\/p>\n
During U.S. President Donald Trump’s first term, \u200bLighthizer played a crucial role as trade chief in the imposition of hefty tariffs on Chinese imports and the renegotiation of the North American \u200cFree Trade Agreement, \u2060or NAFTA, with Mexico and Canada.<\/p>\n
His departure from the board and its \u2060committees was not due to any disagreements with the company’s management or the board, the filing \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n
Founded by \u200bTrump and known for \u200bits Truth Social \u200cplatform aimed at conservative audiences, TMTG has struggled to scale its media business amid competition from larger social networks and uneven user growth.<\/p>\n
TMTG has been considering spinning off Truth Social into a \u200cpublicly traded company.<\/p>\n
In a strategic \u200bpivot in December, the \u200bcompany agreed to \u200bmerge with California-based TAE Technologies in \u200can all-stock deal valued at \u200bover $6 billion, \u200bshifting its focus to fusion energy and forming a publicly traded company developing utility-scale power \u200bplants to \u200cmeet rising electricity demand, including from AI \u200bdata centers.<\/p>\n
