The African continent has the highest cholera case fatality rates.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"dfe-section\" data-section=\"cdc_causes_risk\">\n\t<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"editor-block--title\" id=\"heading-up7m8h5put\">Understanding risk<\/h2>\n<p>People who are more likely to be exposed to cholera include healthcare personnel treating cholera patients, cholera response workers, and travelers to an area where cholera is present.<\/p>\n<p>Cholera can be fatal for up to 50 percent of people with severe disease.
