It trades like regular shares on traditional stock exchanges like Nasdaq and offers a regulated Bitcoin exposure without the need to directly hold or manage it.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START --><strong>Related: Another fund from BlackRock makes stunning $15M debut<\/strong><!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Note that\u00a0BlackRock doesn&#8217;t buy Bitcoin for itself; instead, investors buy IBIT shares through the stock market.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Each IBIT share represents a fraction of Bitcoin held by the BlackRock fund. So\u00a0BlackRock holds\u00a0Bitcoin on behalf of IBIT shareholders.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Here is how it plays out.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Investors, both institutional and retail, buy or sell IBIT shares on Nasdaq. Authorized participants\u00a0handle the creation or redemption of these shares.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->When demand rises, these participants\u00a0buy Bitcoin from the market and deliver it to the BlackRock ETF.\u00a0In return, they receive newly created IBIT shares.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->But when demand sinks,\u00a0these participants\u00a0return IBIT shares to the ETF in exchange for the underlying Bitcoin and sell it in the open market.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->It has been more than two years since BlackRock&#8217;s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) launch in January 2024, and the fund has seen cumulative net inflows of <strong>$63.21 billion<\/strong>\u00a0as of SoSoValue.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Since March 9, the IBIT fund has witnessed positive inflows every day.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<figure data-testid=\"article-figure-image\" class=\"yf-750ceo\">\n<div class=\"image-container yf-lglytj\" style=\"--max-height: 298px;\">\n<div class=\"image-wrapper yf-lglytj\" style=\"--aspect-ratio: 960 \/ 298; --img-max-width: 960px;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/YugeCi9ntyyW0.tkamWVQQ--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTk2MDtoPTI5OA--\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/thestreet_881\/08e2667fc5f659f46f6ae8f75752c8b6\" alt=\"\" loading=\"eager\" height=\"298\" width=\"960\" class=\"yf-lglytj  loaded\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->As of March 16,\u00a0BlackRock holds <strong>784,061.76 Bitcoin<\/strong> in assets under management. It means BlackRock&#8217;s holdings now account for 3.7% of the total Bitcoin supply of 21 million coins.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->However, BlackRock&#8217;s Bitcoin holdings could soon get surpassed by those of a 39-year-old firm that is very popular within the crypto community.<!-- HTML_TAG_END --><\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\"><!-- HTML_TAG_START -->Michael Saylor\u00a0founded <strong>MicroStrategy <\/strong>(Nasdaq: MSTR) as a software enterprise company in 1989.
