Vice President JD Vance<\/span><\/strong>\u2019s journey to the White House wouldn\u2019t be complete without his wife, second lady Usha Vance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Long before being chosen as President Donald Trump<\/strong>\u2019s 2024 running mate, JD developed a unique love story with Usha when they were both in law school.<\/p>\n

Their relationship, however, took on the spotlight even more when the Vance family entered the White House on January 30, 2025.<\/p>\n

In November 2025, the couple faced headlines when Usha was spotted without her wedding ring while visiting military training facility Camp Lejeune in North Carolina with first lady Melanie Trump<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWhen Michelle Obama met Barack Obama in 1989 at the Chicago law firm where they both worked, it was not exactly love at first sight \u2014 even though he was quite popular around the office. \u201cIn my experience, you put a suit on any half-intelligent Black man and white people tended to go bonkers,\u201d Michelle [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A spokesperson for Usha later released a statement<\/span> to People<\/i><\/span> that read, \u201c[She is] a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n

A few months later, in January 2026, Usha and JD announced that they\u2019re expecting their fourth baby together.<\/p>\n

When JD and Usha were both students at Yale Law School, the pair met when they joined a discussion group on \u201csocial decline in white America.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview with NBC News<\/span> in 2017, Usha said she and JD took all of their classes together and were friends before they started dating.<\/p>\n

When they were assigned to work on a brief together, Usha became even more impressed by his diligence.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never seen anybody so starstruck,\u201d their law school professor, Amy Chua<\/span><\/strong>, said of JD in an interview with NBC News. \u201cIt was love at first sight.\u201d<\/p>\n

2014<\/b><\/h2>\n

In 2014, the couple got married and held both Christian and Hindu ceremonies. (JD later converted to Catholicism in 2019.)<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are a lot of things that we just agree on, I think, especially when it comes to family life, how to raise our kids,\u201d Usha told Fox News<\/span> in June about her interfaith marriage. \u201cI think the answer really is that we just talk a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n

2016<\/b><\/h2>\n

JD released his bestselling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy<\/i>. The book detailed his childhood in the working-class United States Rust Belt. It later became a 2020 movie directed by Ron Howard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At one point in the book, JD recalled the time<\/span> he \u201cfell hard\u201d for Usha at Yale. He described her as a \u201cgenetic anomaly\u201d because she possessed so many ideal qualities.<\/p>\n

He also admitted that he \u201cviolated every rule of modern dating\u201d by telling her he was in love after one date.<\/p>\n

Vance and Usha welcomed their first child, son Ewan, in June 2017. The couple later welcomed their second son, Vivek, in February 2020, before welcoming daughter Mirabel in December 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were blessed with an early Christmas present this year,\u201d JD wrote via Instagram after Mirabel\u2019s birth. \u201cEveryone please meet Mirabel Rose Vance, our first girl. Mama and baby both doing great, and we\u2019re feeling very grateful this Christmas season.\u201d<\/p>\n

August 2024<\/b><\/h2>\n

Amid the 2024 presidential race, Usha sat down with Fox News<\/span> for her first solo interview.<\/p>\n

During the chat, the future second lady was asked about her husband\u2019s 2021 remark about the United States being run by \u201cchildless cat ladies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reality is, JD \u2026 made a quip in service of making a point that he wanted to make that was substantive,\u201d she said. \u201cWhat he was really saying is that it can be really hard to be a parent in this country, and sometimes our policies are designed in a way that make it even harder.\u201d<\/p>\n

January 2025<\/b><\/h2>\n

JD and Usha celebrated their new home in the White House with a familiar tradition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe inaugural balls are a beautiful, time-honored tradition of the Presidency,\u201d JD wrote via Instagram<\/span> at the time. \u201cUsha and I were honored to join President Trump in celebrating the beginning of the new golden age of America. Now let\u2019s get to work \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8.\u201d<\/p>\n

October 2025<\/b><\/h2>\n

Despite living in the White House, both JD and Usha wanted to give their kids a relatively normal Halloween by dressing up as a family.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope you had a spooktacular Halloween!\u201d Usha wrote via Instagram<\/span> with photos from their celebration in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

November 2025<\/h2>\n

Usha sparked divorce rumors after she was spotted without her wedding ring during a November 2025 visit to Camp Lejeune. A spokesperson for the Vances explained that Usha is \u201ca mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The occasion came weeks after Erika Kirk<\/strong> embraced JD Vance during a public speaking event and noted that the Vice President shares \u201csimilarities\u201d with her late husband.<\/p>\n

December 2025<\/h2>\n

The Vice President addressed rumors of marital discord during a December 2025 interview with NBC News. He insisted that the pair\u2019s relationship is \u201cas strong as it\u2019s ever been\u201d and said of the rumors, \u201cI think that we kind of get a kick out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith anything in life, you take the good with the bad,\u201d he also said. \u201cYou accept that there are some sacrifices and there are some very good things that come along with it, too. But our marriage is as strong as it\u2019s ever been, and I think Usha\u2019s really taken to it, and it\u2019s been kind of cool to see how she\u2019s developed and evolved in this new role.\u201d<\/p>\n
