She said that the older man reinforced these messages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was, you know, \u2018You\u2019re so mature. I can\u2019t talk to anyone this way. I can\u2019t believe how smart you are,&#8217;\u201d Jennette described.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike, are you kidding me? I was such an idiot. I\u2019m so embarrassed,\u201d she expressed. She is, of course, not to blame.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Jennette recalled the man\u2019s male friends being friendly and cordial but feeling a distance from the women in those men\u2019s lives. Even if they had not worked together, having twice someone\u2019s life experience (the younger party being a teenager) is just going to put them on uneven footing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat it was ultimately my choice. That it was ultimately up to me. That ultimately, I was the one in charge,\u201d she recalled believing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I think if you feel really powerless, you\u2019ll take that bait,\u201d she explained. <\/p>\n<p>Jennette described: \u201cYou know, you\u2019ll take that, and you\u2019ll go, \u2018Okay, I really want that feeling of power even though my gut kind of knows this isn\u2019t that, I\u2019ll take what you\u2019re saying, and I\u2019ll try to run with it, and I\u2019ll try to make it into some semblance of power.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She reasoned: \u201cIf you\u2019re that desperate for it, you will take the bait. He only joined the show when she was about 18, and had been living in an apartment for 2 months before he (drunkenly) showed up to express his feelings and then cheat on his girlfriend with her. (She did not know this)<\/p>\n<p>Being a \u201closer,\u201d as she now accurately calls him, is not a crime.<\/p>\n<p>The second is that the years of emotional and sexual abuse from her mother that she described in <em>I\u2019m Glad My Mom Died<\/em> absolutely set the stage for this.<\/p>\n<p>Jennette spent her childhood feeling powerless, <em>being <\/em>powerless.
