Carrie Underwood<\/strong> wasn\u2019t sure America was ready for her to smash headlights and slash tires \u2014 lyrically, that is.<\/p>\n

The award-winning performer, 42, admitted that she wrestled with fear prior to recording \u201cBefore He Cheats,\u201d the fiery 2000s anthem that defined her early career, in a new interview published on Wednesday, January 21.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember even when we were talking about recording that song, it was kind of like, \u2018Oh, is this too aggressive?\u2019\u201d Underwood, 42, told People<\/em> while attending the Nashville American Idol<\/em> season 9 press line.<\/p>\n

The former American Idol<\/em> winner revealed that she hesitated to proceed with the track, which included a chorus about digging her keys into a \u201cpretty little souped up four-wheel drive\u201d and carving \u201cmy name into his leather seats,\u201d as it could have tarnished her wholesome image.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBow down to the queen of country music! Carrie Underwood has proven time and time again throughout her illustrious career that she is one of a kind. The singer stole hearts when she appeared as a contestant on season 4 of\u00a0American Idol\u00a0in 2005. She went on to win the competition and record hit after hit, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cBecause I was like a sweet farm girl on [American Idol<\/em>] \u2014 and I hope that\u2019s who I still am \u2014 but it was almost, \u2018Maybe we don\u2019t do this song,\u2019\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore He Cheats\u201d was first featured on her debut album, Some Hearts<\/em>, which was released in November 2005, and got a second release as a single the following year.<\/p>\n

In the end, it worked out for the best as \u201cBefore He Cheats\u201d not only dominated the charts, but also became one of her staple hits. \u201cEverybody loved it so much, we went for it and it \u2026 worked. But, yeah, 20 years later, we still see people perform it, and it\u2019s a lot of fun,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Underwood confessed that her own family members can\u2019t even get the catchy track out of their heads.<\/p>\n

\u201cI recently was vacuuming my house, and when I turned the vacuum off [there was] a noise coming from my bedroom and I was like, \u2018It\u2019s music,\u2019\u201d the singer said, revealing that she recognized it the moment she got closer. \u201cAnd I walk in there and my 6-year-old [Jacob] is lying on my bed watching my music video. And I was like, \u2018What are you doing?\u2019 And he\u2019s like, \u2018Nothing.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She recalled, \u201cHe started going down the rabbit hole of my old music videos.\u201d<\/p>\n

Underwood is the proud mom of two sons shared with her husband, Mike Fisher<\/strong>. Their first child, 10-year-old Isaiah, was born in February 2015, followed by his younger brother, Jacob, born in January 2019. Underwood and the former hockey player, 45, wed in July 2010.<\/p>\n
