Jelly Roll<\/strong> has been steadily losing weight since 2022 \u2014 and he\u2019s not slowing down his progress anytime soon.<\/p>\n

The country star (real name is Jason DeFord) has candidly discussed his weight for nearly a decade. In 2015, he weighed more than 500 pounds, revealing in a 2018 Instagram post that he was once advised by a doctor to visit a \u201cmeat processor or truck stop\u201d to find out his actual weight because typical scales only reached 500 lbs.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was one of the most embarrassing days of my life,\u201d Jelly Roll recalled at the time.<\/p>\n

Though Jelly shed pounds off and on in the years that followed, it wasn\u2019t until 2022 that he began taking his weight loss journey seriously.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tJelly Roll has been on a mission to lose weight. \u201cNext year when y\u2019all see me you won\u2019t recognize me,\u201d the country star (real name Jason DeFord) said in an\u00a0October 2024 Instagram video, revealing he\u2019s lost more than 100 pounds. \u201cI\u2019m going to get under a pile of weights in a way that I never [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to spend the first couple months of the year just focusing on family and health,\u201d he told Music Mayhem<\/em> in December 2022. \u201cI lost some weight this year in 2022, but in 2023 I wanna finally conquer the demon. I don\u2019t leave for a big tour until about the middle of the year. So I plan on taking the first half of the year to tighten the album up and get some work in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Three years later, Jelly Roll has lost 275 lbs. and counting.<\/p>\n

How Jelly Roll\u2019s Weight Loss Journey Began<\/h2>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been fat my whole life,\u201d Jelly Roll said on \u201cThe Bobby Bones Show\u201d in 2022, revealing that his mom nicknamed him Jelly Roll because he was a \u201cchubby\u201d kid.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe started calling me Jelly Roll when I was young, and I spent the next 20 years trying to grow into the name,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Jelly Roll revealed on \u201cThe Joe Rogan Experience\u201d podcast in December 2025 that he told his family \u2014 which includes wife Bunnie XO<\/strong>, daughter Bailee and son Noah \u2014 that he would start working on losing weight for years before actually following through. He recalled the day that he finally took the first step in the process. Though it was raining hard outside, Jelly Roll remained determined to go for a walk.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my mind, I was like \u2018I\u2019m going outside,\u2019 ya know? I was like, \u2018I\u2019m done lying to y\u2019all and I\u2019m done lying to me. I told y\u2019all I was gonna go do this walk and I\u2019m gonna do this walk,\u2019\u201d he explained. \u201cI\u2019m coming back from that walk and I\u2019m coming up my driveway, its up a big hill. I\u2019m coming up that driveway hill, and my family\u2019s all there. Cheering me on, clapping, hands up.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cI\u2019d done nothing by lie to them for years about this weight. I never proved to them that I was gonna change or be a man of my word in any regard. They had every reason not to go out there and cheer me on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why Jelly Roll Avoided Using GLP-1 Medications for Weight Loss<\/h2>\n

In his January 2026 cover story for Men\u2019s Health<\/em>, Jelly Roll revealed why he chose not to use GLP-1 medications, including Ozempic, Mounjaro and Wegovy, to help achieve his weight loss goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just remember everyone telling me GLP-1s, or taking the Ozempic or the Mounjaro, \u2018Listen, it\u2019s gonna hurt your stomach a little bit,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve treated my body so bad, I can\u2019t believe God\u2019s gave me this voice for this long. I didn\u2019t deserve it. I literally didn\u2019t do it out of fear.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jelly Roll Treated His \u2018Addiction\u2019 to Food<\/h2>\n

In addition to exercising and making lifestyle changes, Jelly Roll used therapy to treat his food addiction.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven before I got into getting my blood work done, I went and got mental health therapy about my overeating. I started treating my food addiction like what it was: an addiction. Why did I treat cocaine a certain way? I went to meetings for cocaine and found a sponsor and detoxed off of it and s*** myself and went through real hard life-changing emotional choices to get off cocaine and codeine,\u201d he explained to Men\u2019s Health<\/em>. \u201cI didn\u2019t look at the food addiction different. Once I started treating food like an addiction, it started changing everything for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy sex life with my wife was horrible,\u201d he said during \u201cThe Joe Rogan Experience.\u201d \u201cDude, I married a f***ing big-tittied, blond, beautiful woman, you know what I mean? Jelly Roll Isn\u2019t Done With His Weight Loss Journey<\/h2>\n

Jelly Roll told Men\u2019s Health<\/em> that he doesn\u2019t feel like he reached his goal weight yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have a goal weight, I have a feeling weight, and I don\u2019t feel it yet. I\u2019ll know when I feel it, because I\u2019ll finally be there. But, man, I\u2019ve worked really hard and lost the weight the right way,\u201d he said. \u201cI feel the weight loss in every facet. Whether it\u2019s basketball and how I dribble or move, or how I can breathe running up and down a court. I feel it when I sleep and my hip hurts less and I can roll over easier without making a big of a rumble. Or the fact that me and my wife can fit on the same bed again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jelly Roll has also explored the idea of surgery to remove the excess skin he\u2019s been left with after his weight loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s so much skin under here. I\u2019m starting to meet with skin surgeons to talk about possibly cutting skin in the next year. That\u2019s probably what I have the weirdest relationship with. It\u2019s like, I\u2019m proud of it because I earned it,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a symbol of a war that I fought with myself. But equally, it is in the f****ing way. So it\u2019s just, you keep looking in the mirror, like, If that wasn\u2019t there, dude, I\u2019d be fire. So, [I\u2019ll] probably have to clip these titties off eventually.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jelly Roll Says His Weight Loss Made Him a \u2018Better Father\u2019<\/h2>\n

In January 2026, Jelly Roll opened up about how his weight loss improved his relationship with his kids.<\/p>\n

\u201c[It\u2019s changed me in] every way,\u201d he told Extra<\/em> at Netflix\u2019s Star Search<\/em> premiere. \u201cI\u2019ve gotten closer to God, I\u2019ve gotten closer to myself, I\u2019m a better father. I\u2019m more present with my children.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jelly Roll revealed that he started coaching sonNoah\u2019s basketball team, which he never thought he would be able to do.<\/p>\n
