Jan 21 (Reuters) – OpenAI has started offering its new chatbot ads to dozens of advertisers, The \u200bInformation reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with \u200cthe matter.<\/p>\n
OpenAI is asking that to a small pool of advertisers \u200cfor less than $1 million in spending commitments each over a several week trial period, with ads launching in early February, the report said.<\/p>\n
According to the report, the \u2060company is charging based \u200con ad views rather than per-ad clicks.<\/p>\n
Reuters could not immediately verify the report. OpenAI \u200ddid not immediately respond to a request for comment outside of its regular business hours.<\/p>\n
The company does not yet offer \u200btechnology that lets advertisers easily buy ads themselves, \u200cbut is working to get self-service ads up and running, The Information report said.<\/p>\n
The report comes after the Microsoft-backed company said last week that it would start showing ads in ChatGPT to some U.S. users, ramping \u2060up efforts to generate revenue \u200bfrom the artificial intelligence chatbot to \u200bfund the high costs of developing the technology.<\/p>\n
The move marks a major departure for the \u200dcompany that had \u2060so far relied on subscriptions. It shows the pressure OpenAI faces to increase revenue as it \u2060spends heavily on data centers and prepares for a widely anticipated \u200cinitial public offering.<\/p>\n
