Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) on Tuesday announced a cybersecurity partnership with companies including Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), and Microsoft (MSFT) that it said will help defend against the rise of AI-powered cyberattacks.<\/p>\n
Called Project Glasswing, the initiative relies on Anthropic\u2019s new Claude Mythos Preview, a frontier model that the company said will only be made available to a handful of organizations.<\/p>\n
A group of roughly 40 other companies that work on critical software infrastructure will be able to use the model to secure their own software and open-source offerings.<\/p>\n
Anthropic said Claude Mythos Preview is already proving effective at detecting software vulnerabilities, stating that the AI has \u201cidentified thousands of zero-day vulnerabilities, many of them critical.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zero-day vulnerabilities are previously unknown errors in software that developers need to address before they can be exploited, or errors that have already been exploited by attackers and need to be fixed before they can cause any more harm.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s also detected flaws in every major operating system and web browser, and found one software bug that’s 27 years old and another that\u2019s 16 years old.<\/p>\n

Apple’s foldable iPhone on track for September release: Report<\/h2>\n\n
Apple (AAPL) stock pared losses in afternoon trading Tuesday after Bloomberg\u2019s Mark Gurman reported that the company\u2019s planned foldable iPhone is still on track for a September release.<\/p>\n
Shares of Apple had slid in earlier trading after Nikkei Asia reported that Apple was contending with engineering issues with its long-rumored foldable that threatened to delay mass production and shipments of the smartphone.<\/p>\n
Gurman, however, said that the foldable is still on track for Apple\u2019s normal September release schedule. The company generally announces its phones in the second week of that month and begins selling them the next week.<\/p>\n
The foldable iPhone will mark the biggest change to the lineup in years and could help spark broader interest in the product category more broadly.<\/p>\n
Samsung, which has been selling foldable smartphones for years, currently offers its Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.<\/p>\n
Consumers have been warming up to the phone line over the years, with the Fold 7 generating far better preorders and sales compared to its predecessors.<\/p>\n

Big Tech stocks suddenly look cheap<\/h2>\n\n
Goldman Sachs pointed out this morning that tech stocks\u2019 rough beginning to the year may be creating a buying opportunity in the sector.<\/p>\n
“The underperformance of the technology sector is also starting to generate attractive valuation opportunities for investors as its valuation, relative to expected consensus growth, has fallen below that of the global aggregate market,” Goldman Sachs strategist Peter Oppenheimer wrote in a new note on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Oppenheimer continued, “These factors have opened up an opportunity in the technology sector where growth rates remain strong, but valuations are now low. In the US, the valuation premium of the technology hyperscalers has fallen to close to the same as the rest of the market.”<\/p>\n

Apple’s iPhone 17 continues strong sales versus iPhone 16<\/h2>\n\n
Apple\u2019s (AAPL) iPhone continued strong sales last month, thanks to the popularity of the iPhone 17 line, Bernstein analysts wrote in an investor note on Monday.<\/p>\n
According to the report, Global iPhone sell-through \u2014 that is, sales of iPhones from retailers to customers \u2014 increased 26% year over year in February. Overall, the analysts say iPhone 17 unit sales are up 20% versus last year\u2019s iPhone 16 through September and January.<\/p>\n
The base model iPhone 17 accounted for 39% of that growth, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max accounted for 21%.<\/p>\n
Average selling price, or ASP, also climbed in February, growing 6.9% year over year. So far, ASP has improved each month since the iPhone 17 launched in September, except in October, Bernstein said.<\/p>\n
The analysts said China provided the biggest boost to ASP, with growth of 20.2% year over year.<\/p>\n

Broadcom expands deals to supply Google, Anthropic with chips and compute capacity<\/h2>\n\n
Broadcom (AVGO) deepened its collaboration with Google (GOOG) and Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) with a pair of deals, sending the stock up 3% in premarket trading.<\/p>\n
The chipmaker agreed to produce Google\u2019s artificial intelligence chips known as tensor processing units, or TPUs, and will give Anthropic access to around 3.5 gigawatts of computing capacity starting in 2027, according to filings.<\/p>\n
Broadcom will also provide networking infrastructure for Google\u2019s AI racks through 2031.<\/p>\n
Anthropic\u2019s consumption of the expanded AI compute is dependent on the AI startup\u2019s continued commercial success, the filing said. Anthropic said the significant expansion of its compute infrastructure will power its frontier Claude models and meet \u201cextraordinary demand\u201d from customers.<\/p>\n
Anthropic added in a blog post that its revenue run rate has now topped $30 billion, up from $9 billion at the end of 2025.<\/p>\n

Iran threatens ‘utter annihilation’ of OpenAI data center in Abu Dhabi<\/h2>\n\n
Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guard Corps has threatened to attack OpenAI\u2019s (OPAI.PVT) enormous Stargate data center in Abu Dhabi if President Trump proceeds with his threat to attack Iranian power plants.<\/p>\n
In a video posted on April 3 to the state-backed Tehran Times\u2019 X account and previously reported by Tom\u2019s Hardware and The Verge, a spokesperson for the regime said power and information infrastructure facilities, including the Stargate data center, will face \u201cutter annihilation.\u201d<\/p>\n
The video then shows images of Stargate, as well as a lineup of its prominent backers, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, although it also misidentified two individuals as Apollo CEO Marc Rowan and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. OpenAI releases policy proposals to combat AI-driven job losses<\/h2>\n\n
OpenAI (OPAI.PVT) released a series of policy proposals it said are meant to address what it sees as some of the major societal challenges that will inevitably arise from the growth of ever more powerful forms of artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n
The proposals, which OpenAI admits are \u201cambitious\u201d and \u201cintentionally early and exploratory,\u201d include everything from a new industrial policy agenda to modernizing the tax system to expanding access to healthcare coverage and retirement savings.<\/p>\n
They are meant to help answer questions about job disruptions and AI systems that evade human control, and to protect against governments deploying AI in ways that run counter to democratic values.<\/p>\n

Why JPMorgan is warning Tesla stock may crash 60%<\/h2>\n\n
Tesla\u2019s expectations for this decade have collapsed, and its share price may soon follow, according to one analyst.<\/p>\n
JPMorgan\u2019s Ryan Brinkman wrote in a note on Monday that the recent rise in Tesla shares and analyst price targets during this collapse in expectations imply a \u201csharp pivot\u201d in Tesla\u2019s performance beyond this decade, as my colleague Brian Sozzi reported this morning.<\/p>\n
“We advise investors cautiously approach this expectation within the context of both execution risk and the time value of money,” Brinkman said.<\/p>\n
He added, “Investors should in our view be mindful when assessing the implied inflection higher in Tesla performance starting sometime beyond this decade (when results are presumably expected to begin tracking materially stronger than earlier expected, in contrast to materially weaker than earlier expected).”<\/p>\n
Brinkman reiterated a Sell rating on Tesla. His $145 price target estimates Tesla’s stock plunging about 60% from current levels.<\/p>\n

Microsoft announces $10 billion investment in Japan, Sakura Internet stock soars in Tokyo<\/h2>\n\n
Microsoft (MSFT) will invest 1.6 trillion yen ($10 \u200cbillion) in Japan between 2026 and 2029 to expand artificial intelligence infrastructure in the country and deepen its cybersecurity partnership with the government.<\/p>\n
The announcement builds on Microsoft’s $2.9 billion investment in Japan in April 2024.<\/p>\n
To meet Japan\u2019s AI demand, Microsoft said it\u2019s partnering with Sakura Internet (3778.T) and SoftBank (SFTBY) to build compute capacity through Azure while keeping data within the country. Although US markets were closed on Friday, Sakura Internet stock surged 20% in Tokyo.<\/p>\n

Amazon adds fuel surcharge to third-party shipping<\/h2>\n\n
Amazon (AMZN) is responding to the steady increase in fuel prices related to the US war in Iran by tacking on a surcharge to the cost for third-party sellers that use the company\u2019s shipping fulfillment service.<\/p>\n
\u201cElevated costs in fuel and logistics have increased the cost of operating across the industry,\u201d an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement to Yahoo Finance.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have absorbed these increases so far, but similar to other major carriers, when costs remain elevated we implement temporary surcharges to partially recover these costs,\u201d the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n
Amazon says the 3.5% \u201cfuel and logistics-related surcharge\u201d will be added to existing fulfillment fees, but notes that the price is \u201cmeaningfully lower than surcharges applied by other major carriers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Microsoft developing its own high-end AI models<\/h2>\n\n
Microsoft (MSFT) says it\u2019s on a path to developing high-powered frontier models, an acknowledgment that it is looking to wean itself off its dependence on partner models from OpenAI (OPAI.PVT).<\/p>\n
Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman told Bloomberg in an interview published Thursday that the plan is to have \u201cstate-of-the-art\u201d models for multiple types of data, known as multi-modal models, including for text, audio, and images.<\/p>\n
The news comes less than a month after Microsoft shifted Suleyman\u2019s focus in its AI subsidiary to developing its own models, turning development of the company\u2019s Copilot platform over to Jacob Andreou.<\/p>\n
Microsoft jumped out to an early lead in the AI race thanks to its partnership with OpenAI, which provides Microsoft with the company\u2019s intellectual property through 2032.<\/p>\n
As of October, Microsoft held a 27% stake in OpenAI Group PBC. The company also recently contributed to OpenAI\u2019s latest fundraising round, which brought in $122 billion at a valuation of $852 billion.<\/p>\n
