A 71-year-old woman, one of two people accused of killing a 3-year-old Georgia boy on Easter Sunday, has been arrested in connection with his death, according to authorities.<\/p>\n

Barbara Edwards<\/strong> was identified by police as a babysitter for the toddler, Armani Lyons<\/strong>, who was fatally shot at an apartment in Atlanta on April 5, WAGA-TV reported.<\/p>\n

The evening of Monday, April 13, Edwards was arrested on charges of cruelty to children, murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with his death, the Atlanta Police Department announced in an update on Tuesday, April 14.<\/p>\n

Another person, 35-year-old Jermaine Hardeman<\/strong>, also faces the same charges in the boy\u2019s murder, according to police, who said Hardeman was not in custody as of April 14.<\/p>\n

It was not currently clear whether Edwards or Hardeman had attorneys who could comment on their behalf.<\/p>\n

Before Edwards\u2019 arrest, Armani Lyons\u2019 grandmother, Trinetta Julian<\/strong>, made a public plea to Edwards and Hardeman while speaking with WSB-TV.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust turn yourself in,\u201d Julian said. \u201cTurn yourself in, please.\u201d<\/p>\n

Armani was killed weeks before what would have been his fourth birthday on May 3, according to a GoFundMe page created by Dinisha Lyons<\/strong> in support of funeral-related expenses for Armani.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur sweet Armani was taken from us far too soon due to senseless gun violence \u2026 Armani was full of life, joy, and innocence \u2014 a bright light who brought smiles to everyone he met,\u201d the page reads, in part. \u201cNo family is ever prepared for a loss like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Edwards had been babysitting Armani on Easter while his parent had been working, Atlanta Assistant Police Chief Carvan Tyrus<\/strong> said at an April 6 news conference, according to Atlanta News First.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomehow, that 3-year-old ends up with a gunshot wound to the head,\u201d Tyrus told news outlets.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA Georgia woman has been taken into custody after she allegedly poisoned her 2-month-old baby with a lethal dose of alcohol after intentionally giving the child a bottle filled with booze. On October 14, 2025, emergency services reportedly responded to a call about an unresponsive infant. The child \u2014 who is referred to as Baby [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After Atlanta officers responded to the April 5 shooting, the toddler was taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance, according to police.<\/p>\n

He was declared dead at the hospital, police said.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, April 12, the Atlanta Police Department announced \u201cinvestigators were able to establish probable cause and obtain arrest warrants\u201d for Edwards and Hardeman.<\/p>\n

A potential motive for the fatal shooting was not specified by law enforcement.<\/p>\n
