The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives<\/em>\u2018 Taylor Frankie Paul<\/strong> and Dakota Mortensen <\/strong>never shied away from addressing their messy \u2014 and oftentimes volatile \u2014 relationship ahead of their multiple domestic disputes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before the show premiered on Hulu in September 2024, Taylor and Dakota started dating following her divorce from husband Tate Paul in the wake of a high-profile \u201csoft swinging\u201d sex scandal. Taylor and Dakota faced ups and downs in their relationship after she was arrested for domestic violence before they expanded their family with son Ever in March 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taylor, for her part, expressed hope that the show would offer more insight into her life outside of the arrest. The reality star, who also shares kids Indy and Ocean with Tate, later admitted she was surprised that season 1 didn\u2019t show Dakota\u2019s \u201cgood soft side.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tTaylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen\u2018s complicated romance was thrust into the spotlight on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives \u2014 and their relationship status remains unclear. Before the show premiered on Hulu in September 2024, Taylor and Dakota started dating following her divorce from husband Tate Paul in the wake of a high-profile \u201csoft [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After the reality show became a success, Taylor and Dakota went through numerous breakups and reconciliations. For Dakota, the most difficult part was having their issues play out in a public forum.<\/p>\n

The duo ultimately faced more legal issues when news broke in March 2026 that Mormon Wives<\/em> allegedly halted production on season 5 after Taylor and Dakota were involved in a domestic violence dispute while filming. A spokesperson for the Draper City Police Department confirmed that there is an open \u201cdomestic assault investigation\u201d involving the pair.<\/p>\n

The following month, the Salt Lake County District Attorney\u2019s Office opted to not charge Taylor in the alleged dispute.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAfter reviewing reports and evidence submitted to the Draper Police Department and West Jordan Police Department, the Salt Lake County District Attorney\u2019s Office has declined to file charges against Taylor Frankie Paul,\u201d district attorney Sim Gill\u2019s office said in a statement to Us<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Dakota Mortensen was Taylor Frankie Paul\u2019s first public boyfriend after her divorce from Tate Paul<\/strong>. After nearly one year of dating, Taylor was arrested in February 2023 for domestic violence. She was ultimately charged with aggravated assault, two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, child abuse with injury and criminal mischief after the incident. Taylor pleaded guilty six months later to aggravated assault, while the other four charges were dismissed with prejudice. She reached a plea deal the following month.<\/p>\n

Dakota told the Daily Mail in an interview at the time that Taylor would never hurt anyone \u201cintentionally,\u201d adding, \u201cShe\u2019s a good mom, she\u2019s going through a lot in her life right now. Taylor\u2019s been struggling, it\u2019s been a hard year for her. She is racked with guilt [over] her cheating scandal that cost her her marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n

He elaborated on the \u201cViall Files\u201d podcast in June 2025. \u201cThat was a really scary thing that night. You want to talk about being, like, in a position of, \u2018What do you do?\u2019 That\u2019s how it felt,\u201d he recalled. \u201cI did take a video because I didn\u2019t know what was going to happen. My truck was in the garage. I could not leave. I tried to leave. It just was so bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dakota claimed Taylor was \u201cabsolutely hammered,\u201d adding, \u201cThe second we walked into the house, essentially it just turned into the most craziest thing ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Documenting Their Highs and Lows<\/h2>\n

Despite several onscreen fights, Taylor Frankie Paul was confident in a future with Dakota Mortensen, sharing in the first season of Mormon Wives, \u201cDakota, he was such a good partner in the process and very supportive.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cI\u2019m, like, on cloud nine, and this is, like, the first time I\u2019ve been so confident in us, in a future. I just \u2014 I hope that I can trust him.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, Taylor admitted to Us that she was in no rush to get engaged to Dakota.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to take my time with this time around, this is my second marriage. It is going to be very important to me, and I don\u2019t want to end up in another situation of being divorced,\u201d she explained. \u201cSo, I really just want everything to be really solid and have a foundation of trust. And so I feel like that takes time. I would love for that to be the end goal. But right now, I think building it up to that is where I\u2019m at.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really hard for me to watch [the ups and downs with me and Dakota] because it\u2019s all such true feelings. None of it is fabricated or acting or nothing. It\u2019s all real,\u201d Taylor Frankie Paul told Us in October 2024 after the first season of Mormon Wives was released. \u201cSo it\u2019s really hard for me to watch that back to that. That\u2019s probably one of the hardest moments.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor said she wasn\u2019t sure about her relationship status with Dakota Mortensen at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say we\u2019re working on things, and I actually have no idea where it goes with us from here. We are not fully together but not fully done. I don\u2019t know where the future holds with him and I,\u201d she admitted. \u201cIt\u2019s just a lot. So I\u2019m coping and trying to cope. But I don\u2019t want to watch the show.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI know a lot of people from a viewer point of view [don\u2019t understand that] having everything aired out to the world is a lot different than just going to a person you care about or your family and telling them something,\u201d Dakota Mortensen explained on the \u201cViall Files\u201d podcast in June 2025. \u201cLike, you want to talk about fear, that\u2019s the scariest feeling in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cThen doing it with a show, you don\u2019t have any control over it. If they\u2019re missing something, it\u2019s like that\u2019s not how it was. That to me was really hard to grasp. That was hard to understand. I was like, \u2018I don\u2019t want to be torched to the world for it. I just want to have a moment with you where I can talk to you. I want a safe place to talk.\u2019 But that\u2019s not the case.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dakota also reflected on the early days of his and Taylor Frankie Paul\u2019s relationship.<\/p>\n

\u201cPretty early on I was like, \u2018What are we?\u2019 Because I just don\u2019t know. And I could tell something inside of me liked her. I knew it, and it scared me really bad. So there was also that part where I didn\u2019t want her to hurt me,\u201d he explained. \u201cThat\u2019s the sad part \u2014 I was [the] one that hurt her. I think part of that was maybe me sabotaging it. I was so afraid of how much I liked Taylor and how afraid I was of her and knowing that I didn\u2019t know, really, what she wanted or like if this could even be a thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

After several breakups, Taylor Frankie Paul chose to cut ties with Dakota Mortensen and went to film season 22 of The Bachelorette.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was hard because I\u2019m, obviously, a part of that \u2014 it\u2019s not like I am pointing the finger like, \u2018He is [the toxic one.]\u2019 It takes two to tango. We were just not progressing,\u201d she shared with Us in March 2026. \u201cWe like each other sometimes, and then we fight. It\u2019s really hard to explain to people, and unless you\u2019ve been in that situation, it is hard to understand. If I could just snap out of it, trust me, I would.
