The actress claimed that her relationship with Konner became unhealthy. In her book, Dunham recalled the duo attending a therapy session gone wrong following Dunham\u2019s health issues in an attempt to repair their friendship. Dunham claimed that Konner spoke about how her weight loss didn\u2019t match with the messaging on Girls<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the issue is that you\u2019re too thin. And the thing is, it\u2019s not funny if you\u2019re too thin, it\u2019s just Sex and the City<\/em> all over again,\u201d Konner allegedly told Dunham. \u201cWhat made your movie special was that you weren\u2019t that. If we lose it, we don\u2019t have a clear voice.\u201d<\/p>\n Dunham wrote that it felt like Konner \u201chad switched roles\u201d in their relationship, going \u201cfrom cozy bestie\u201d to \u201csupervisor.\u201d<\/p>\n After undergoing a hysterectomy, Lena Dunham went to rehab for an addiction to anxiety medication. Dunham wrote in Famesick<\/em> that she did not tell many people, including Jenni Konner, about her struggles. After Dunham achieved the milestone of 62 days sober, she reached out to Konner to tell her that she wanted the pair to speak to a therapist.<\/p>\n \u201cYou do not make me feel safe or proud, and I cannot speak to you until we are in front of a therapist,\u201d Dunham wrote in the book.<\/p>\n Dunham revealed that she had an emotional reaction during the therapy session with Konner. The actress shared that their relationship was important to her and she wanted to salvage it. Konner responded by asking her not to \u201cwrite about this immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n After being in session for a few minutes, Konner allegedly thanked the therapist and then left. That was the last time Dunham and Konner saw each other.<\/p>\n In an April 2026 interview with the New York Times<\/em>, Lena Dunham reflected on how her falling out with Jenni Konner occurred at a time when she was struggling with multiple issues.<\/p>\n \u201cThere was a moment where I broke up with my business partner, I broke up with my partner, I had a hysterectomy, I stepped back from work,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cI went from full-on to sitting in a back room in my parents\u2019 apartment in silence, collaging letters together.\u201d<\/p>\n Dunham added that she was at the point where she wasn\u2019t \u201ccapable of keeping anything going.\u201d<\/p>\n During an April 2026 appearance on Matt Rogers<\/strong> and Bowen Yang<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cLas Culturistas\u201d podcast, she looked back on her relationship with Jenni Konner.<\/p>\n \u201cThose creative relationships that were so intense, they were like marriages,\u201d she said. \u201cIt was like I was in a polyamorous relationship.
