Supernanny<\/em> star Jo Frost<\/strong> has made a public plea to the U.K. government to raise the minimum age for social media use to 16.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a message to [Sir Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of the U.K.],\u201d Frost, 55, said in an Instagram video on Tuesday, April 14. \u201cYou are a father, a father of two children, so you know what it is to protect them, to look at them and to understand what they are ready for and what they are not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Frost continued, \u201cI\u2019m speaking to you now as a British citizen and as someone who has spent nearly four decades inside family homes, guiding them and educating them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Frost was a nanny for more than 30 years, starting in 1989 when she was 18 years old. Her British reality show, Supernanny<\/em>, aired from 2004 to 2008 and followed the TV personality as she worked with families of mischievous children to improve their behavior. She has since starred in several other programs, the U.S. version of Supernanny<\/em>, Family S.O.S. With Jo Frost<\/em>, Family Matters<\/em>, Jo Frost: Nanny On Tour<\/em> and more.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSarah Michelle Gellar has handled vampires, werewolves and more on screen with ease, but off screen, protecting her two kids is harder when they have so much technology at their fingertips. \u201cThere\u2019s parts of [technology] that are great, and there are parts of it that aren\u2019t,\u201d Gellar, 46, told Us Weekly while promoting her partnership [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cPrime Minister, sir, this is a defining moment for you, because what I\u2019m seeing across all ages of childhood should stop us in our tracks,\u201d the Ask Supernanny author added. \u201cI\u2019m working with toddlers who are already being conditioned by fast-moving, overstimulating content impacting their attention, their language, their behavior, their ability to sit and just simply connect. I\u2019m seeing children as young as seven and eight already being poured into a world of comparison and exposure and influence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Frost pointed out that these children \u201cdo not have any emotional or cognitive capacity to even process\u201d what they\u2019re seeing online.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then there\u2019s our teenagers,\u201d she continued. \u201cThey\u2019re struggling with their identity, they\u2019re struggling with their self-worth. They\u2019re struggling to regulate their big emotions at this time in their life, exposure to sexual predators and dark online material.\u201d<\/p>\n

Frost argued that teens\u2019 \u201cexecutive functioning is under strain,\u201d as well as their \u201cability to focus, to make decisions, to cope with discomfort.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir confidence is fragile,\u201d she noted. \u201cTheir mental health is suffering, and their brains are still developing and being shaped by systems designed to keep them hooked in, not to help them grow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Frost added that she\u2019s seeing a \u201cpattern\u201d in parents who are \u201canxious, overwhelmed and exhausted\u201d as they fight for their kids\u2019 attention.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is where leadership matters,\u201d Frost said. \u201cOther countries are stepping forward. They\u2019re recognizing that childhood must be protected in this digital age, and so must we. We have a moral responsibility to our families.\u201d<\/p>\n
