A jury in New York City found that Live Nation and its subsidiary, Ticketmaster, illegally maintained monopoly power in the ticketing market.<\/p>\n

According to NBC News<\/span>, a group of jurors found that Ticketmaster overcharged concertgoers by $1.72 per ticket at \u201cmajor concert venues\u201d as a result of its anticompetitive behavior. (Deliberations began on Friday, April 10.)<\/p>\n

Other monetary damages are possible, which U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian<\/strong> will ultimately decide at a later date.<\/p>\n

\u201cA jury found what we have long known to be true: Live Nation and Ticketmaster are breaking the law and costing consumers millions of dollars in the process,\u201d New York Attorney General Letitia James<\/strong> said in a statement to NBC News on Wednesday, April 15.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCoachella 2026 tickets sold out within roughly a week. Both weekends \u2014 General Admission and VIP \u2014 are gone, and the official waitlist is closed. For a festival that draws visitors from over 60 countries and expects 125,000 fans each weekend, that kind of demand signals something worth understanding, whether you\u2019re hunting for resale passes [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

California Attorney General Rob Bonta<\/strong> also praised the verdict in a statement, writing, \u201cThis verdict shows just how far states can go to protect our residents from big corporations that are using their power to illegally raise prices and rip off Americans. We are incredibly proud of today\u2019s outcome \u2014 and especially proud of our coalition made up of red and blue states alike who understood we needed to come together to protect our consumers, businesses and state economies from Live Nation\u2019s illegal conduct.\u201d<\/p>\n

Us Weekly<\/i> has reached out to Ticketmaster for comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe jury\u2019s verdict is not the last word on this matter. Pending motions will determine whether the liability and damages rulings stand,\u201d a spokesperson for Live Nation shared in a statement to Us<\/i>. \u201cOf course, Live Nation can and will appeal any unfavorable rulings on these motions.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the trial, David Marriott<\/strong>, an attorney for Live Nation, denied that the company was acting as a monopoly and argued against the \u201cnotion that the fans and the venues are doing worse with Live Nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s simply not true,\u201d he said, before adding that the company is \u201cbringing concerts to the country and fans. \u2026 It\u2019s not against the law. We are fierce competitors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before fans see any immediate change, CNN<\/span> reported that Judge Subramanian will now hold a second trial to decide what remedies are warranted, such as breaking up the company or making other changes.<\/p>\n
