\t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\tSusan Sarandon and Geena Davis in \u201cThelma and Louise\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n \n\tKhouri, who won an Oscar for her original screenplay, will write the show\u2019s book with music and lyrics by Neko Case, the Grammy-nominated vocalist, lyricist and composer who has performed and published many songs about \u201cwomen\u2019s rage.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tBroadway\u2019s Trip Cullman will direct the co-production led by the Young Vic, Sonia Friedman Productions, Blue Spruce Productions, Ley Line Entertainment, Khouri and Mandy Greenfield in association with MGM On Stage.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt\u2019s the most famous road-movie and female friendship movie of all time,\u201d Nadia Fall, the Young Vic\u2019s artistic director and CEO, told Deadline an in exclusive interview.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThere\u2019s something scared about it,\u201d Fall declared.<\/p>\n \n\tIn fact, Fall\u2019s film feature debut, last year\u2019s striking road-trip drama\u00a0Brides,<\/em>\u00a0was inspired enormously by\u00a0Thelma & Louise<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\tNadia Fall. That movie\u2019s 35 years old but it still feels radical, this feminist story. And when you think of America and when you think of women\u2019s rights and how they\u2019re going backwards, I just think, \u2018God, how is this story so damn relevant and still so brave?\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u00a0Fall added that there\u2019s a whole generation \u201cwho wouldn\u2019t have seen it.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tShe let out a sad sigh as we discussed how its reemergence is so timely. Women still suffer excruciating police and legal challenges when they go to the authorities to report a rape. They\u2019re the victims, \u201cbut you wouldn\u2019t know it from the way they\u2019re treated,\u201d she lamented.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cSadly, it should be an old story of yesteryear that things have changed, but they haven\u2019t,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \n\tLast summer, producer Friedman assembled the team of creatives, cast and musicians to stage a series of workshops on the Young Vic\u2019s main stage.<\/p>\n \n\tAmy Lennox (Cabaret, Kinky Boots, Lazarus, Opening Night<\/em>) and Rachel Tucker (Wicked, Come From Away, Sunset Boulevard, The Great Gatsby<\/em>), both celebrated musical theater artists, were knockout in workshops as the two desperados. They have been officially cast to play the leads in the show that runs from September 3 through October 24. \u201cThey are drop-dead gorgeous in it,\u201d said Fall.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\u2018Thelma & Louise\u2019 Young Vic artwork<\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n \n\tIn a statement released via the Young Vic, Khouri said that the newly re-imagined story is \u201cstill a wild\u00a0\u00a0and emotional ride, made even better by the enormous talents of Neko Case, Trip Cullman\u00a0and our amazing creative team.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tWhen asked what\u2019s in store for the musical after the Young Vic, Fall said they\u2019re simply concentrating on getting the production into theater, reasoning that \u201cit\u2019s superstitious to talk about what comes next.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tHowever, the show has been in development for several years, with involvement at one point from Amanda Seyfried and Evan Rachel Wood in a workshop in New York.<\/p>\n \n\tGetting to the Young Vic is the culmination of much sweat and tears, although hopefully no blood was involved.<\/p>\n \n\tThe show\u2019s future life will very much depend on what emerges from its eight week run on the south side of the River Thames across Waterloo Bridge.<\/p>\n \n\tThe Young Vic\u2019s new season also incudes\u00a0Eurotrash<\/em>, a darkly comic tale with cutting humor starring Kathryn Hunter (Poor Things, Andor, Black Doves<\/em>)\u00a0and Ben Whishaw (Peter Hujar\u2019s Day, Black Doves, Paddington<\/em>). The play is based on Christian Kracht\u2019s 2024 bestseller. It has been adapted for the stage by Colin Jeevan, who co-wrote television movie The Tank\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0and the\u00a0Das Boot<\/em>\u00a0series.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\tKathryn Hunter and Ben Whishaw in Young Vic artwork for \u2018Eurotrash\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n \n\tWalter Meierjohann will direct the production to run at the Young Vic from November 13 through January 9 2027. \u201cIt\u2019s about our skeletons in a closet as people, but also as nations,\u201d was how Fall described the play.<\/p>\n \n\tOther shows include the UK premiere of\u00a0La Distance<\/em>\u00a0by Portuguese playwright and current director of the Festival d\u2019Avignon, featuring original cast Alison Dechamps and Adama Diop. It will be performed in French with English surtitles\u00a0\u00a0from January 22 through February 13 2027.<\/p>\n \n\tAfter which Debbie Tucker Green (Ear for Eye<\/em>) will direct her new play\u00a0Dissent<\/em>, running from March 5 through April 24.<\/p>\n \n\tFall will direct a new production of August Wilson\u2019s\u00a0Gem of the Ocean<\/em>, the first of Wilson\u2019s\u00a0Pittsburgh Cycle<\/em>\u00a0of 10 plays that explored the African American experience set in every decade of the 20th century.\u00a0When Fall\u00a0\u00a0ran the Stratford East Theatre in East London,\u00a0she directed\u00a0King Hedley II<\/em>, the penultimate play in Wilson\u2019s\u00a0Pittsburgh<\/em>\u00a0canon that starred Lenny Henry and Aaron Pierre, who, by the way, is terrific, along with Olivia Williams, Giles Terea and Arthur Boan, in Clint Dyer\u2019s brilliantly scorching production of\u00a0One Flew Over the Cuckoo\u2019s Nest<\/em>\u00a0that opened at the Old Vic on Wednesday night. It stands on its own as its own thing, just as the film version does.<\/p>\n \n\tThe team behind Thelma & Louise <\/em>includes choreography by Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, scenography by Christine Jones and Brett J.
