Editor\u2019s note: The above video previously aired on January 13, 2026<\/em>.<\/p>\n NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) \u2014 City officials are hosting a hiring event for a major infrastructure project coming to the city.<\/p>\n The MTA approved a $1.9 billion contract to begin the second phase of the Second Avenue Subway last year, moving the long\u2011planned expansion forward. The next phase will extend the Q line from 96th Street to 125th Street and is expected to open to riders by 2032.<\/p>\n More Local News <\/p>\n The project will create new connections, linking the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 lines to Metro\u2011North through a new station at 125th Street and Lexington Avenue, also creating job opportunities for many residents.<\/p>\n The hiring event will include information on union apprenticeship programs and construction\u2011industry training.<\/p>\n The event will be held next Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 219 East 109th Street, between Second and Third avenues.<\/p>\n Minimum qualifications include being at least 18 years old, having a high school diploma and being eligible to work in the U.S.<\/p>\n Attendees can also explore civil service exam opportunities with the MTA, NYPD, FDNY and other city agencies.<\/p>\n Anyone interested in employment opportunities with the MTA and other participating organizations is encouraged to attend.<\/p>\n You can pre\u2011register by clicking this link.<\/p>\n Nicole Alarcon is an award-winning digital content producer.
