Savannah Guthrie<\/strong> shared some words of wisdom with Today<\/em> colleague Sheinelle Jones<\/strong> to help her navigate grief after husband Uche Ojeh<\/strong>\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cSavannah taught me a couple of things,\u201d Jones, 47, told Today With Jenna & Sheinelle<\/em> cohost Jenna Bush Hager<\/strong> during the Thursday, April 16, episode of the \u201cOpen Book With Jenna\u201d podcast. \u201cOne, because her father passed at 16, she was like, \u2018You don\u2019t have to try to be the superhero.\u2019 And she actually helped me tremendously.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones added that Guthrie, 54, reminded her she can teach her and Ojeh\u2019s eldest child, son Kayin, 16, that he doesn\u2019t \u201chave to be the father of the house\u201d and still gets to \u201cbe a kid.\u201d (Jones and Ojeh, who died at age 45 in May 2025, also shared twins Uche Jr. and Clara, 13.)<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I\u2019ve really had to lean on friends,\u201d Jones continued. \u201cI have another really good girlfriend who lost her father in fifth grade. Like, I\u2019ve had to lean into friends who have had this. And so I\u2019ve talked to people [about] how it was for them as children, and then I\u2019ve really connected with other widows. Like, it\u2019s this club. It\u2019s a quiet club, but they are there. And we found them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe hosts of Today have offered some insight into how Sheinelle Jones has been coping with the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh. On May 23, Savannah Guthrie announced on the NBC morning show that Ojeh died at age 45 after a private battle with the brain cancer glioblastoma. \u201cThere are no words for the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Guthrie was the one to announce Ojeh\u2019s death on Jones\u2019 behalf on the Today<\/em> show last spring. (Jones had taken a leave of absence beginning in December 2024.)<\/p>\n

\u201cWith profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our dear friend and Today cohost Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,\u201d the TV personality said at the time. \u201cThere are no words for the pain that we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jones returned to Today<\/em> in September 2025, getting emotional as she spoke about Ojeh\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this moment, I\u2019m OK. Day-to-day, I\u2019m OK. From a macro picture, how am I doing? My heart is shattered in a million pieces,\u201d she said at the time. \u201cThe life that I\u2019ve known since I was 19 is no more. I always wanted kids, and I have three kids of my own now, and they lost their dad. I\u2019m their mom, and it sucks. So, how am I doing? It\u2019s day-to-day. I\u2019m proud of myself for how I\u2019ve coped so far. I\u2019m proud of my kids for how we\u2019ve been able to pull through, but it\u2019s horrible.\u201d<\/p>\n
