\n\t20th Century Studios has unveiled the first trailer for Ice Age: Boiling Point<\/em>, the first Ice Age<\/em> film in more than a decade, which is set to open next February.<\/p>\n \n\tIn footage unveiled at Las Vegas on Thursday, set against an icy prehistoric landscape, we see that Scrat, the franchise\u2019s iconic squirrel, has had a baby. He fights with it over an acorn before giving it a baby acorn, which it turns into a pacifier.<\/p>\n \n\tWe then realize there\u2019s an active volcano in the background, and suddenly, lava is everywhere, leaving Scrat and child to hop from one ice floe to another in hopes of surviving.<\/p>\n \n\tFranchise veterans Ray Romano, Denis Leary, and Queen Latifah were on hand tonight to promote the film, with Romano joking up top, \u201cTrump hasn\u2019t landed yet, so relax\u2026I don\u2019t know what I\u2019m talking about.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tIn comparison the franchise, Romano said, \u201cThe real Ice Age didn\u2019t last this long. When we did Ice Age 1<\/em>, I know I wasn\u2019t wearing compression socks or reading glasses.\u201d (In fact, Leary noted, Romano has just become a grandfather.)<\/p>\n \n\tLatifah said the new finds our lead characters \u2014 a group of animals navigating the Ice Age \u2014 at \u201ca little fork in the road in their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe group said they\u2019ll be taking a trip to a lost world, where treacherous new obstacles, including the volcano, wait for them.<\/p>\n \n\tThe animated adventure comedy series Ice Age<\/em> launched with a 2002 film directed by Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldanha, which was a commercial hit at over $383M worldwide. The property originated at the 21st Century Fox-owned animation banner Blue Sky Studios, with Disney taking control following its 2019 acquisition of Fox.<\/p>\n \n\tFollowing the original Ice Age<\/em> came four sequels: Ice Age: The Meltdown <\/em>(2006), Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs<\/em> (2009), Ice Age: Continental Drift<\/em> (2012), and Ice Age: Collision Course<\/em> (2016). The films have grossed more than $3.2 billion worldwide, all told.<\/p>\n \n\tIce Age: Boiling Point<\/em> will also see the return of voice actors John Leguizamo and Simon Pegg. It will be the first theatrical Ice Age<\/em> film to not be produced by Blue Sky Studios, following its closure in April 2021.
