Kate Hudson<\/strong>\u2018s stepfather, Kurt Russell<\/strong>, has yet to make an appearance on her hit Netflix series, Running Point, but there is a key role he would be perfect for \u2014 and it has already been discussed by the powers that be.<\/p>\n

During the Wednesday, April 15, premiere for season 2, Us Weekly<\/em> shared the suggestion that Russell, 75, play the late Gordon patriarch, which the cast happily cosigned.<\/p>\n

Scott MacArthur, who plays Ness, joked that he \u201calways thought\u201d of Russell as his dad anyway, adding, \u201cSo I\u2019m all in.\u201d Fabrizio Guido, who portrays Jackie, newcomer to the Gordon family \u2014 said he too would love to share the screen with Russell.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been around, and I didn\u2019t even think of that. Wow!\u201d he noted while season 2 guest star Ken Marino added in his own interview with Us, \u201cThat\u2019d be fantastic! Yes, that\u2019s perfect. Get that out there!\u201d<\/p>\n

Executive producer Jeanie Buss<\/strong> was just as thrilled at the possibilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, that would be amazing. Are you kidding me? Like, that\u2019s a good idea!\u201d Buss noted. \u201cI totally support that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pitch also got the stamp of approval from executive producer David Stassen<\/strong>, who hinted that there have been discussions, adding, \u201cThat\u2019s a great idea. And it\u2019s been balled about. We\u2019ve talked about it. If we ever do see him, we could not do better than Kurt Russell.\u201d<\/p>\n

Running Point<\/em>, which returns April 23, follows Hudson, 46, as a reformed party girl who gets the chance to prove herself when she is left in charge of her family\u2019s pro basketball team.<\/p>\n

In addition to Hudson, the show stars MacArthur, Guido, Chet Hanks, Toby Sandeman, Justin Theroux, Drew Tarver, Brenda Song<\/strong> and Uche Agada<\/strong>. The sports comedy has also prided itself on its star-studded cameos.<\/p>\n

Hudson, for her part, previously recalled how Russell offered her a role in his 1996 film Escape from L.A.<\/em> \u2014 but she turned it down.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went in and auditioned and got that part, and I sort of realized, \u2018Oh, this is when you start to make choices that will define your career.\u2019 And, \u2018Do I want to be defined by being Kurt\u2019s daughter who got this part? No,\u2019\u201d she explained at a live recording of the \u201cAwards Chatter\u201d podcast in June 2025.<\/p>\n

She added: \u201c[It doesn\u2019t] matter if I got it because I was good enough \u2014 it would never be what people would ever think. And I knew that and was like, \u2018No, I can\u2019t.\u2019 So I ended up saying no to that, too.\u201d<\/p>\n
