Her recent statements do not reflect our commitment to professionalism or uphold our principles of ethical conduct,\u201d <em>USA Today Sports<\/em> spokesperson <strong>Lark-Marie Ant\u00f3n<\/strong> tweeted on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Froyd claimed to TMZ that she was fired from her job via email after a decade with the publication as a result of telling the <em>Daily Caller<\/em> that she once \u201cdeclined\u201d to be mentored by Russini because of the former Athletic writer\u2019s \u201ctrack record.\u201d (Russini recently resigned from <em>The Athletic<\/em> after being photographed with New England Patriots coach <strong>Mike Vrabel<\/strong> at a resort in Arizona despite both being married to other people. One of the photos, published by Page Six on Tuesday, April 7, shows Russini, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cApparently, I as an independent contractor cannot make my own statements on my own social media accounts,\u201d Froyd told TMZ.<\/p>\n<p>She claimed that her comments about Russini weren\u2019t part of any \u201cvendetta\u201d against the NFL insider, nor was she \u201cactively waiting for the perfect moment\u201d to share her story. Instead, Froyd insisted that she simply added context when news broke that Russini resigned from The Athletic under a cloud of controversy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could finally say something without being the only one,\u201d she told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>Froyd worked for USA Today Sports \u2014 first as a freelance reporter and later as a staff writer \u2014 since 2015, per her LinkedIn account.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Original story:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>A female NFL reporter was offered the chance to be mentored by former <em>Athletic<\/em> NFL insider <strong>Dianna Russini<\/strong>, but says she declined due to Russini\u2019s alleged track record.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomeone once propositioned me to have Dianna potentially be my mentor,\u201d <em>USA Today<\/em>\u2019s <strong>Crissy Froyd<\/strong> said in a statement to the <em>Daily Caller<\/em>, published Wednesday, April 15. \u201cI declined because I knew what she was about and her track record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Froyd, 26, graduated from LSU in 2021 and worked for NBC and <em>Sports Illustrated<\/em> before landing at <em>USA Today<\/em>. She initially made waves on Tuesday, April 14, when she responded to Russini\u2019s resignation letter via X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sure you were told to submit this or that you\u2019d get fired instead,\u201d she wrote. \u201cDon\u2019t let the door hit you on the way out. We know who you really are and what you\u2019ve been up to for years. It does so much detriment to women in sports who have done things the right way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russini, 43, resigned on Tuesday amid an investigation from <em>The Athletic<\/em> into photos published by <em>Page Six<\/em> showing her with New England Patriots head coach <strong>Mike Vrabel<\/strong> at a resort in Arizona. The photos included shots of Russini, 43, and Vrabel, 50, appearing to clasp their hands together and another with their arms around each other. Both reporter and coach have insisted the photos are innocent.<\/p>\n<p>In her statement to the <em>Daily Caller<\/em>, Froyd thanked the outlet for having the \u201caudacity\u201d to write about Russini \u201cbeing called out,\u201d which she said the former <em>Athletic<\/em> writer \u201cdeserves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of us do know what she\u2019s been up to,\u201d Froyd said. \u201cIt was the worst kept secret in the NFL reporting world for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cI will say there\u2019s a line. Alright, so, you probably have seen a lot of people coming after me. I\u2019ll be transparent and I would love to use this as the greatest example.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Froyd then pointed to a sexual relationship that she had with former collegiate quarterback <strong>JT Daniels<\/strong>, which she said did not begin until after he retired from football.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can honestly say I have never slept with a player or coach for professional gain,\u201d she wrote. \u201cDianna cannot say the same.
