Sue Bird<\/strong> and Megan Rapinoe<\/strong>\u2019s split<\/span> wasn\u2019t the easiest call to predict.<\/p>\n

In the weeks leading up to the couple\u2019s breakup announcement, both Bird, 45, and Rapinoe, 40, showed little to no signs that there was trouble in paradise.<\/p>\n

On April 8, Rapinoe shared a joint Instagram post<\/span> with her content studio, A Touch More, and Vanderbilt Women\u2019s Basketball coach Shea Ralph<\/strong> that included a photo with Bird.<\/p>\n

As for Bird, her last post with Rapinoe was in January when the pair enjoyed a trip to France.<\/p>\n

\u201cVoulez-vous du beurre?\u201d Bird wrote via Instagram<\/span> on January 17, while sharing a selfie with her partner on vacation. The caption translated to, \u201cWould you like some butter?\u201d<\/p>\n

Both all-star athletes surprised their fans and followers on Friday, April 17, when they announced their split after a decade as a couple.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere really is no smooth or easy way to share this news. After a lot of thought, we\u2019ve made the decision to separate as a couple,\u201d the duo said via a joint Instagram<\/span> post. \u201cThis hasn\u2019t been an easy decision, but it\u2019s one we\u2019ve made together, with so much love, respect and care for each other. We\u2019ve shared a whole life over the last decade, through big moments and in quiet ones, and that is something we\u2019ll always carry with us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement continued, \u201cWe\u2019re so grateful to this incredible community that has held us up, welcomed us in, and supported us exactly as we are. So many of you have reminded us, again and again, why loving out loud matters.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the weeks before their split, the couple was working on their \u201cA Touch More\u201d podcast. As for red carpet appearances, the private pair did step out in November 2025 to attend an after-party for their company.<\/p>\n
