\n\tAs Shane and Ilya return for Season 2 of Heated Rivalry<\/em>, the stakes will be higher for the happy couple.<\/p>\n

\n\tSeries creator Jacob Tierney recently teased that the source material, Rachel Reid\u2019s The Long Game<\/em>, is \u201can emotionally sophisticated book that takes this couple seriously,\u201d set 10 years after the events of the Heated Rivalry<\/em> book.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt really is different, and the challenge, from an adaptation standpoint, is you\u2019re in much more serious territory,\u201d he explained at BookCon 2026, according to Entertainment Weekly<\/em>. \u201cThere\u2019s still lots of flirting, and there\u2019s lots of sex, but it\u2019s this kind of danger. This kind of \u2018hotel room, adolescent sex\u2019 stuff is largely gone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe sixth book in Reid\u2019s Game Changer<\/em> series, The Long Game<\/em> follows Shane and Ilya a decade into their relationship, which is still kept a secret, despite Ilya wanting to take their romance public.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat do you do after the rush of danger is gone and yet now you have to live in a relationship where you still aren\u2019t communicating properly, much as you would like to?\u201d added Tierney. \u201cYou can say you love each other, but as adults know, there\u2019s so much more than that to make a relationship successful. And that is what they\u2019re learning.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTierney recently told Deadline there\u2019s \u201ca lot of material\u201d to work with for Season 2, suggesting the book might be split into two seasons.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen I talked to Rachel for the first time about Heated Rivalry<\/em>, I wanted to take this seriously because I think that\u2019s what this material deserves. There\u2019s a version of it that\u2019s pulpy and soapy, but I wanted to take it seriously because I am really transfixed by this relationship,\u201d he explained. \u201cPart of what transfixed me was knowing where it was going with The Long Game<\/em>. Rachel took them very seriously, and these little tidbits in the first book become real issues for them [later].\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
