\n\tIn some vault, somewhere, are a couple of unreleased \u201crough tracks\u201d featuring two-time Emmy-nominated actor Matt Bomer and 17-time Oscar-nominated songwriter Diane Warren.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn a conversation with Josh Horowitz for Happy Sad Confused<\/em>, the Fellow Travelers <\/em>star revealed that he has an unreleased EP of songs tied to 2015\u2019s Magic Mike XXL<\/em>. <\/p>\n \n\tThe idea came about following the success of the 2012 Steven Soderbergh original; while between setting up scenes, co-star Channing Tatum asked Bomer to entertain background artists by singing. After he chose to do a Jodeci cover of Stevie Wonder\u2019s \u201cLately,\u201d producers knew they wanted him to sing in the 2015 sequel. As a result, Bomer covers D\u2019Angelo\u2019s \u201cUntitled (How Does It Feel).\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cSo we recorded a couple songs for the soundtrack, kind of just on a lark \u2014 although one of them was recorded by Ludwig G\u00f6ransson, who just won his [third] [sic] Oscar, because he was working with Donald Glover, who was also on XXL<\/em>,\u201d he recalled. \u201cI guess they did well on Spotify, which is not something I had planned for, but then the folks at Tower Records were like, \u2018Would you ever want to record an album?\u2019 And they were like, \u2018Do you write music?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018I\u2019ve written music since I was a kid.’\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tBomer subsequently penned three songs, and was told he would be set up to work with some producers. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIf you think the entertainment\/acting side of things is crazy, the music industry\u2019s like, \u2018No, no, dog, watch this.\u2019 It is some craziness,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n \n\tHowever, the project didn\u2019t see the light of day, with the White Collar <\/em>alum saying his unwillingness to do it stemmed from logistical issues: \u201cPeople wanted such a big percentage, which is so complicated between the lawyer, and it was too much, and I had kids.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tBomer also recorded with \u201ctotal legend\u201d Warren.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI knew that if I released them into the world, I was gonna have to go on talk shows and do them, and tour around the country with them, and do all this stuff. And I was like, \u2018You know what? I love her music, but if I\u2019m gonna do this, it has to come from me,\u2019 and so we never released it,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
