BUFFALO, N.Y. \u2014 Marco Sturm had a plan when he said the Boston Bruins were bigger and stronger than the Buffalo Sabres. He wanted a reaction. He got it.<\/p>\n
\u201cSomebody had fun with it,\u201d the Bruins coach said with a smile before Game 1. \u201cSo I\u2019m glad that happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sturm is a rookie coach, but he is acting like a veteran in how he\u2019s trying to impact the series. In the same answer, Sturm credited the run-and-gun Sabres for being an offensive powerhouse.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we\u2019re hard on pucks, strong on pucks, when we are physical, we have a chance,\u201d Sturm said Sunday. \u201cIf we decide to play their way, might as well stay at home. Because they\u2019re that good. If you\u2019re a Boston Bruin, we just have to play that way. If it\u2019s not, it\u2019s going to be long. Because they skate well. They\u2019re skilled enough. They have 108 points for a reason.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin should be driving the bus at both ends. Dahlin and Mattias Samuelsson could get the shutdown assignment against Morgan Geekie, Elias Lindholm and David Pastrnak. If the Bruins don\u2019t manage the puck well in the offensive zone, Dahlin will be delighted to go the other way.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you let him, he\u2019s going to destroy us, basically,\u201d Sturm said. \u201cWe cannot allow that to happen. What it means is we need to stop him. The best thing is to be finishing our checks and make sure when he\u2019s on the ice, we\u2019re aware. Because he\u2019s that good.\u201d<\/p>\n
KeyBank Center will explode at puck drop because of the Sabres\u2019 14-year postseason no-show. The Bruins could get their doors blown off if the Sabres tap into the crowd\u2019s frenzy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cThe pressure is on them, too,\u201d Sturm said. \u201cThey\u2019ve been waiting for this moment. Not just the players \u2014 the organization, the fans, the city\u2019s been waiting for that moment. There is a lot of pressure on the home team.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
