Jessica Chastain <\/b>delivered the drama at the 12th annual Breakthrough Prize ceremony.<\/p>\n

Chastain, 49, attended the Saturday, April 18, event in Los Angeles dressed to impress in a strapless Oscar de la Renta gown with golden floral appliqu\u00e9s. The look complemented the actress\u2019 brand-new bob that was chopped to her chin.<\/p>\n

\u201cChoppity chop,\u201d Chastain wrote via Instagram<\/span> on Sunday, April 19, sharing footage of hairstylist Renato Campora <\/b>cutting her long tresses.<\/p>\n

In a post<\/span> on his own page, Campora noted that he gave Chastain a \u201cfresh haircut\u201d in time for the Breakthrough Prize.<\/p>\n

Chastain is famed for her long red waves.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a child, I didn\u2019t want to be different \u2014 I wanted to look the same as everyone else because I didn\u2019t want to be singled out,\u201d she told Refinery29<\/span> in 2017. \u201cI was ridiculed for having red hair; for having freckles. Whatever you are ridiculed about that makes you different is what you\u2019ll celebrate in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cIf I wanted to dye my hair, I could, but I realized that\u2019s who I am, and my differences [make me] special.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead of dyeing her ruby-colored locks for movie roles, Chastain opted to play with her style via wigs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe one way to change my physicality is through wigs,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cWigs are amazing because they not only change your hair color, they can also change your hairline and the texture.\u201d<\/p>\n
