There\u2019s a reason why Pete Davidson<\/strong> was not featured in the documentary about Saturday Night Live<\/em> creator Lorne Michaels.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI interviewed so many people for the film, and at a certain point, after I\u2019d interviewed [John] Mulaney<\/strong> and he had said everything he had said, I just didn\u2019t know where we were gonna put more voices,\u201d director Morgan Neville<\/strong> told People<\/em> in an interview published on Saturday, April 18. \u201cIt just felt like it was full, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n

Neville noted that Davidson, 32, was not available when they first started filming the documentary, recalling that he didn\u2019t know \u201cwhere anything\u2019s gonna fit\u201d with all the SNL alums participating.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was the hard part,\u201d Neville said. \u201cIt was like an embarrassment of riches, that you could interview a thousand people about Lorne Michaels. So many people have stories.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tPete Davidson got candid about why he thought some of his Saturday Night Live costars found his success \u201cannoying\u201d before he left the show. \u201cYou got to remember [that] everyone there did Second City improv, [they] worked so hard \u2014 so hard,\u201d Davidson, 31, said during the Wednesday, August 13, episode of Power 105.1 FM\u2019s [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Neville also hoped to focus more on Michaels, 81, rather than celebrities like who he crossed paths with.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just trying to distill his essence into a film,\u201d he said. \u201cA lot of those stories are not about Lorne, they\u2019re about those people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted to make sure I was staying on Lorne\u2019s story and not other people\u2019s stories,\u201d he continued. \u201cBecause there are stories everywhere and it\u2019s huge. There are thousand-page books about the show. So, it\u2019s really just trying to get that essence of what makes him tick that I was just zeroed in on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davidson has been candid through the years about his relationship with Michaels. In the 2025 documentary SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night<\/em>, Davidson recalled calling for a meeting with Michaels after his first year on the show.<\/p>\n

Davidson went on to jokingly compare himself to acting like \u201ca child,\u201d adding, \u201cI was like, \u2018Nobody wants to be my friend.\u2019 And he said, \u2018You don\u2019t figure it out until your third or fourth year. \u2026 It\u2019s just gonna suck for three or four years.\u2019 I was like, \u2018All right,\u2019 and he was right.\u201d<\/p>\n
