HANOVER, Germany, April 20 (Reuters) – Germany Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Monday that \u200cBrazil had great potential to expand deliveries \u200cof critical metals, adding that Germany can supply the \u200btechnology.<\/p>\n
“There are significant opportunities in the cost-effective extraction of certain metals required for e-mobility and wind turbines,” Merz said at the Hanover \u200cindustrial fair alongside \u2060Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.<\/p>\n
“Germany is prepared to support \u2060Brazil with technological know-how and expertise in order to further expand these relations,” he added.<\/p>\n
Speaking \u200bvia a \u200btranslator, Lula said \u200bhis country had expanded \u200cits investment in critical minerals and rare earths, but that his government would “not accept any models that reduce our country to mere resource extraction, serving only to meet demand \u200cfrom abroad.”<\/p>\n
Lula added that \u200bBrazil was seeking to ramp \u200bup defence \u200bcooperation with Germany.<\/p>\n
“We are engaged in \u200cdialogue regarding strategic areas such \u200bas tanks, \u200bair defence and drones, as well as joint projects,” he said.<\/p>\n
German-Brazilian government consultations \u200bare due \u200cto take place later on Monday.<\/p>\n
