\n\tRebel Wilson was described as \u201cf*****g nuts\u201d by the crisis PR team she allegedly engaged to attack Amanda Ghost, the producer of her directorial debut The Deb<\/em>.<\/p>\n \n\tWilson is being sued for defamation by The Deb<\/em> actress Charlotte MacInnes over Instagram posts in which the Pitch Perfect <\/em>star alleged that MacInnes complained about Ghost after they shared a bath together in 2023. The trial is taking place at the Federal Court of Australia in Sydney.<\/p>\n \n\tLawyers for MacInnes have accused Wilson of hiring Melissa Nathan, the American publicist of The Agency Group (TAG), to launch websites that smeared Ghost. Wilson has consistently denied this, telling a U.S. court last year that she \u201cunequivocally\u201d played no role in \u201cconceiving, planning, registering, directing, creating, writing, or posting the content of the websites.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe alleged smear campaign included the site, amandaghostsucks.com, which \u2014 in an apparent reference to MacInnes \u2014 alleged that an actress had been rewarded for \u201cremaining silent about the abuse she suffered at Ghost\u2019s hands.\u201d Sue Chrysanthou, MacInnes\u2019 barrister, described it as a \u201cmalignant allegation\u201d that is denied by her client. <\/p>\n \n\tMacInnes\u2019 case includes messages that originally emerged in the It Ends with Us<\/em> dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, in which PR executive Nathan tells former colleague Katie Case that \u201cRebel wants\u201d a \u201creally harsh\u201d website about \u201cAmanda.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tCase gave evidence to the Sydney trial via video link on Tuesday. Case said she was provided a \u201cfully drafted\u201d document of what was wanted for the website, but she did not know who authored the document.<\/p>\n \n\tMetadata showed the document was created under the name Camp Sugar, Wilson\u2019s production company, but Case accepted that this was not evidence that it was authored by Wilson, whom she has never met. The court heard that texts between TAG\u2019s staff referred to Wilson as \u201cf*****g nuts,\u201d per Australian Associated Press.<\/p>\n \n\tDauid Sibtain, Wilson\u2019s barrister, told the court that Ghost websites were a \u201cdistraction\u201d and that the \u201ccritical issue in this case\u201d is whether Ms MacInnes \u201cdid in fact make a complaint to Ms Wilson.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAt the heart of the case is an incident in September 2023, when Ghost shared a bath with MacInnes in a Sydney apartment after they had been swimming on Bondi Beach.<\/p>\n \n\tChrysanthou, for MacInnes, told the court on Monday that Ghost suffered cold urticaria after the swim, a condition that effectively renders people allergic to cold water. Ghost was shaking uncontrollably and came out in hives, with MacInnes helping her back to the apartment, where they bathed together in swimsuits to help warm up Ghost.<\/p>\n \n\tWilson has claimed that MacInnes told her that the incident made the young actress uncomfortable. Wilson has further alleged that MacInnes later withdrew her complaint after being given career opportunities by Ghost.<\/p>\n \n\tMacInnes denies this and is suing Wilson over four Instagram posts. This includes one in September 2024, in which the\u00a0Bridesmaids<\/em>\u00a0star claimed MacInnes changed her story after being cast by Ghost in a\u00a0Gatsby<\/em>\u00a0stage show and receiving a record deal. Chrysanthou, MacInnes\u2019 barrister, told the court that Wilson was a \u201cbully\u201d for \u201cslagging\u201d MacInnes in Instagram posts.<\/p>\n \n\tThe case continues.
