When it comes to the biopic about the life of pop icon Michael Jackson<\/strong>, the critics are unimpressed.<\/p>\n

The film, aptly named Michael<\/em>, tells the story of the singer\u2019s life from his early days leading the Jackson 5 to his solo time on stage as the biggest entertainer in the world. Michael\u2019s real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson<\/strong> portrays his uncle in the biopic. (Jafaar, 29, is the son of Michael\u2019s older brother Jermaine Jackson<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n

While the film has yet to be released to the public \u2014 it hits theaters on Friday, April 24 \u2014 early critic reviews are in and, well, they\u2019re not great. On Rotten Tomatoes, Michael has received a rating of 32 percent at the time of publication, earning mixed reviews from critics.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a movie terrified to explore the interiority of its protagonist, and that approach will work just fine for the fans who just want to watch an uncomplicated ramble of a movie that plays all the hits,\u201d a critic from Consequence<\/em> wrote in a review giving the film a C minus rating.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tRumors have been swirling that Janet Jackson got into a fiery dispute with her brother Jermaine Jackson and other family members over the Michael biopic, but people in her corner claim that couldn\u2019t be further from the truth. Janet\u2019s longtime artistic director Gil Duldulao squashed the hearsay while responding to a post on X from [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Associated Press also gave Michael one and half stars out of four.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe nostalgia of Michael is for more than Michael Jackson. But blindly believing only in that celebrity, in that fantasy, is repeating a sad history all over again,\u201d the review read.<\/p>\n

Despite receiving harsh backlash from some, other critics shared praise for the biopic.<\/p>\n

\u201cSimply put, this is not a movie about Michael Jackson\u2019s dark side. Yet the surprise of \u201cMichael\u201d is how well it plays, and what an engrossing middle-of-the-road biopic it is,\u201d Variety<\/em> wrote.<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/em> applauded Jaafar\u2019s performance in his film debut writing, \u201cThis guy channels Uncle Michael in uncanny ways, and simply sells this performance with all the right dance moves and sharp dramatic talent to make us believe Michael Jackson is once again with us.\u201d<\/p>\n
