\n\tEXCLUSIVE<\/strong>: Three-time Oscar nominees Ralph Fiennes (Conclave<\/em>) and Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises<\/em>) are leading cast in Oscar winner Istv\u00e1n Szab\u00f3\u2019s (Mephisto<\/em>) under-the-radar period drama Embers<\/em>, which has begun filming in Budapest, Hungary.<\/p>\n
\n\tAlso joining the cast in the prestige pic are Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (45 Years<\/em>), Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why<\/em>), Louis Hofmann (All The Light We Cannot See<\/em>), Gijs Blom (The Kollective<\/em>), Evelyne Brochu (French Girl<\/em>), and Jonah Russell (Lady Chatterly\u2019s Lover<\/em>).\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tAdapted by two-time Oscar winner Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liasons<\/em>) from S\u00e1ndor M\u00e1rai\u2019s acclaimed novel, the film reunites Hungarian auteur Szab\u00f3\u2019 with his Sunshine<\/em> (and Being Julia<\/em>) producer Robert Lantos and that film\u2019s star, Fiennes. It also marks a reunion between Lantos and Eastern Promises<\/em> star Mortensen. <\/p>\n
\n\tThe synopsis reads: \u201cEmbers<\/em> reconnects once inseparable friends, Henrik (Fiennes) and Konrad (Mortensen), decades after Konrad\u2019s mysterious disappearance and uncovers over the course of one evening the secret that tore them apart\u2014and the woman at the center of it.\u201d <\/p>\n
\n\tBelow are first-look images of Fiennes, Mortensen and Langford in the film, which has been described as a \u201cpsychological duel\u201d between Fiennes and Mortensen\u2019s characters.<\/p>\n
\n\tEmbankment Films will be launching sales on the project ahead of the Cannes market. Lantos produces for <\/strong>Serendipity Point Films and Tibor Krsko for HGO Films.<\/p>\n
\n\tHampton first adapted M\u00e1rai\u2019s novel as a stage play in 2006. Following its run on London\u2019s West End, he is then said by the producers to have delivered a screen draft to Szab\u00f3 with a single message, \u201cIn hope\u201d. The film is Szab\u00f3\u2019s first in six years and only his second since 2012. It was conceived by the filmmaker with Lantos and Fiennes in mind as collaborators.<\/p>\n
\n\tJoining Szab\u00f3 in the crew are Oscar-winning composer Mychael Danna (Life Of Pi<\/em>), production designer Attila F. Kovacs (Sunshine<\/em>), cinematographer D\u00e1niel Garas (Rise Of The Raven<\/em>), costume designer Bea Merkovits (Rise Of The Raven<\/em>) and editor David Wharnsby (Away From Her<\/em>). The film was cast by Academy Award nominee Nina Gold (Hamnet<\/em>).<\/p>\n

\n\tAri Lantos (Remember<\/em>) is also a producer, and Laura Lanktree (Crimes Of The Future<\/em>) is co-producer. Executive producers include Jan Mojto, Atom Egoyan, Tim Haslam, and Andrea Calderwood, with Hampton and Jeff Sackman as co-executive producers.<\/p>\n
