The list includes Matt Klein, a Minnesota Democrat running for Congress, and Ezekiel Enriquez, a Texas Republican formerly running for Congress.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And then there\u2019s Mark Moran, clips of whom have circulated quite a bit this primary season thanks to his eccentric speech cadence, and also just his whole deal:<\/p>\n<div class=\"not-prose video-container\"><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"I'm running for U.S. Senate.\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/o8tmP0-O-us?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">Moran, a Virginia independent running for Senate who was at one point running as a Democrat, apparently placed a Kalshi bet on himself. He doesn\u2019t dispute this, and says he put down $100.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">He was also once a contestant on the reality dating show FBoy Island.<\/p>\n<div class=\"not-prose video-container\"><noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"FBoy Island Season 1 Trailer | Rotten Tomatoes TV\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/embed\/oBQmXydlYNg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">Kalshi\u2019s head of enforcement, Bobby DeNault, told the Times that these candidates violated\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">new rules<\/span> against this sort of activity. In Moran\u2019s \u201cNotice of Disciplinary Action\u201d posted online, the violation is spelled out in helpful, plain language:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf a Trader is a decision maker, either directly or indirectly, or has any influence, directly or indirectly, no matter the scale and importance of the influence, on the outcome of the Underlying (event) of any Contract, that Trader is prohibited from attempting to enter into any trade, either directly or indirectly, on the market in such Contracts.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-family: ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\">Moran apparently cooperated with his investigation at some point and \u201cacknowledged that these trades were improper and in violation of the Kalshi exchange rules,\u201d but \u201crepeatedly refused to resolve this matter via settlement and stopped responding to further correspondence,\u201d and was fined $6,229.30\u2014the largest fine of the three candidates. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-family: ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\">Moran told the Times, \u201cThey wanted me to make a public statement, a tweet, that was acknowledging this,\u201d which his says he viewed as participating in Kalshi\u2019s marketing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">What\u2019s more, Moran claimed to the Times that this was his plan all along. He knew the public would find out about his bet, he told them, but he hoped that getting caught would expose prediction markets as \u201cdangerous to our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">He apparently talked more in his Times interview, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s almost so ridiculous that it was this easy to bring this attention.\u201d Who could argue?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As of this writing, he had just begun rapid-fire posting on X, telling the same story he told the Times, and taking credit for a massive earned media victory.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Kalshi accused me today of insider trading on a market that, after my request, their head of politics added me to\u2026after it was public info that I was going to run\u2026<\/p>\n<p>*all screenshots in the video for reporters*<\/p>\n<p>For $100 I got the NYT, WSJ, Washington Post, AP, Bloomberg,\u2026 https:\/\/t.co\/9o6wgwSOFA <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GTIsCmBX0u\">pic.twitter.com\/GTIsCmBX0u<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mark Moran for U.S. Senate (@itsmarkmoran) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/itsmarkmoran\/status\/2047131701466337658?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">April 23, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Kalshi, for its part, is facing perhaps 20 civil suits, and was charged last month with crimes in Arizona related to alleged illegal betting and wagering, including one called \u201celection wagering.\u201d Mike Selig, chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, disputed the need for charges, saying the Kalshi matter is a \u201cjurisdictional dispute and entirely inappropriate as a criminal prosecution.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><br \/>\n<br \/><a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The prediction market Kalshi has taken punitive measures against three current or former candidates for national office accused of insider trading, according to the New York Times.
