A (second) Clueless<\/em> TV series without Alicia Silverstone<\/strong> as queen bee Cher Horowitz? As if!<\/p>\n

In 2025, news broke that a revival TV series of the iconic 1995 film with Silverstone attached to star and executive produce was in development at Peacock.<\/p>\n

The original Clueless<\/em>, loosely adapted from Jane Austen\u2019s<\/strong> 1815 novel Emma<\/em>, centered on Silverstone\u2019s Cher, the most popular girl at Bronson Alcott High School, who sets out to become a successful matchmaker to her friends \u2014 and even her teachers.<\/p>\n

The film\u2019s box-office success sparked a follow-up TV series in 1996, created by Heckerling and starring Stacey Dash<\/strong>, Donald Faison<\/strong> and Elisa Donovan<\/strong> in their film roles as Cher\u2019s inner circle. Silverstone and Paul Rudd<\/strong> \u2014 who portrayed Cher\u2019s love interest and former stepbrother Josh in the film \u2014 did not return. The part of Cher was recast and played by Rachel Blanchard<\/strong>. The show aired on ABC for three seasons before its cancellation.<\/p>\n

While Peacock picked up a different Clueless<\/em> reboot centered around Dash\u2019s Dionne in 2019, the project ultimately never moved forward. In April 2026, it was reported that Peacock\u2019s upcoming Clueless<\/em> TV series was canceled.<\/p>\n

Silverstone revealed in 2025 that she would return as Cher after reprising the role for a Super Bowl commercial in 2023. It\u2019s unknown whether anyone else from the 1995 cast will return.<\/p>\n

Silverstone broke her silence on the project while speaking to Today i<\/em>n August 2025, sharing she was \u201creally excited\u201d about returning as Cher \u2014 but wants to make sure the project does the character justice.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we\u2019re going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about\u00a0Clueless<\/i>\u00a0and Cher,\u201d she said, adding that the goal is to \u201chonor\u201d the original film while also bringing something \u201cfresh and new\u201d to the series. \u201cI\u2019m confident that we\u2019ll be able to do that, but we\u2019re in baby stages right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
