Mariska Hargitay<\/strong> is hopeful to reunite with Law & Order: SVU<\/em> costar Chris Meloni<\/strong> in the future after the cancellation of the Organized Crime<\/em> spinoff.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love Chris and I love acting with Chris, so I\u2019m always open to working with him and getting Benson and Stabler together,\u201d the actress, 62, said in an interview with Deadline<\/em> published on Wednesday, April 22. \u201cThey\u2019re happiest when they\u2019re together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hargitay \u201chopes\u201d that Meloni, 65, could return to SVU<\/em> at some point to bring the detective dream team back together.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is a very heartening thing for both of us, that our relationship was so iconic culturally and that Benson and Stabler still resonates is deeply meaningful to me,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cChris and I, I\u2019m sure you know, are very, very close. He\u2019s a very in-demand actor, so we\u2019ll see if the schedule is lined up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tChristopher Meloni\u2018s Law & Order spinoff Organized Crime got canceled after five seasons and numerous showrunner changes \u2014 but why did the actor originally leave the SVU version of the hit franchise? Law & Order, which premiered in 1990, launched Dick Wolf\u2018s legal TV universe. From there, NBC found success by expanding with Law & [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meloni is starring in the upcoming Dan Fogleman<\/strong> series The Land<\/em> alongside Mandy Moore<\/strong>, William H. Macy<\/strong> and Chace Crawford.<\/strong> The series, which has begun filming, is expected to premiere on Hulu sometime this year.<\/p>\n

Hargitay and Meloni connected in 1999 when SVU<\/em> premiered. While the show followed the pair\u2019s characters, Olivia Benson (Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Meloni), as they investigate and prosecute sex-based crimes, die-hard fans hoped to see them fall in love over time \u2014 which ultimately did not happen.<\/p>\n

Following season 12, which aired in 2011, Meloni announced his departure from the series. Meloni revealed that a pay dispute impacted his decision to leave.<\/p>\n

\u201cI left with zero animosity, but I did leave clearly and open-eyed in going forward and finding new adventures. I was like, \u2018That\u2019s what I want to do, keep moving forward,\u2019\u201d Meloni told The New York Post<\/em> in July 2021. \u201cI had done the Law & Order way of storytelling, which they do really well, and I was interested in telling stories from a different angle \u2014 whether comedic or inhabiting a new world or doing it on different platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nearly a decade later, Meloni returned to the SVU<\/em> universe with its Organized Crime<\/em> spinoff. The series, which premiered in 2021, had Meloni reprising his role as a retired detective returning to the force after his wife\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n
