WASHINGTON, April 24 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump told Reuters on Friday that Iran plans to \u200cmake an offer aimed at satisfying U.S. demands, \u200cas peace talks were expected to resume in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
“They’re making an offer and \u200bwe’ll have to see,” Trump said during a phone interview.<\/p>\n
Trump said he did not know what the offer would be yet. He has been adamant that any deal include Iran giving \u200cup its enriched uranium \u2060and allowing freedom of oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared \u2060Kushner plan to depart on Saturday for the Pakistani capital Islamabad for talks with an Iranian delegation.<\/p>\n
Trump on Thursday had expressed \u200bconcern about \u200bwho was leading Iran, and \u200bU.S. officials have said \u200cthey believe the leadership is fractured.<\/p>\n
On Friday, when asked who the U.S. was negotiating with, Trump said: “I don’t want to say that, but we’re dealing with the people that are in charge now.”<\/p>\n
He declined to provide names.<\/p>\n
Reuters reported earlier that Iran’s \u200cForeign Minister Abbas Araqchi was expected \u200bin Islamabad on Friday to discuss \u200bproposals for restarting peace \u200btalks with the U.S.<\/p>\n
Trump has insisted the \u200cU.S. military will maintain a blockade \u200bagainst Iran’s ports \u200buntil an agreement is reached.<\/p>\n
When asked what is needed to lift the blockade, Trump said: “I’d have to be \u200bable to answer \u200cthat question later. I have to see what they’re \u200boffering.”<\/p>\n
